How does an artist move from studio practice into public art?

Just one of the many insights @kumari_nahappan shares in our latest episode. We talk about building a creative career that spans more than three decades, staying inspired through change, and the rituals that continue to shape her practice.

🎙️ Watch the full conversation in Season 2 Episode 1 of Desi in Design, now streaming on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.

Special thanks to Studio Five, our studio partner for this episode and producer of our Season 2 trailer.

A little trip down memory lane as we get ready to launch Season 2 of Desi in Design! 👀 Looking back at these moments from Season 1 reminds me how much this project has grown. What started as a fun idea and way to make friends became conversations with incredible artists, designers, and creative thinkers from around the world!

To everyone who listened, shared an episode, joined the community, or appeared on the show, thank you. You helped make our first season possible! Extra shoutout to @tradestars.space for being our studio partner!!

Season 2 is almost here, and this time we’re taking Desi in Design international. I can’t wait to share what’s coming next!!

Women navigate changing circumstances
regularly.

Adaptability is a psychological strength. Being able to adjust our thinking and expectations helps reduce stress and improve resilience.

Mental wellness grows when we learn how to adjust, reassess, and move forward even when life does not unfold as planned.

What in your life might benefit from a more flexible perspective?

It’s been an incredible year at Ladies, Wine and Design London. We hosted many events, from inspiring talks and crafty workshops to portfolio reviews and creative meet-ups.

We’d like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to all the amazing creatives who supported us this past year by getting involved with our events. And thank you to our community for all the love and support. We loved meeting many new brilliant people and reconnecting with familiar faces. We wish you all a restful and well-deserved break ✨

We will be back next year with new, exciting events, continuing to create a safe and inclusive space for women and non-binary creatives.

See you next year.

You’re at a networking event and pretending to be your most put-together self. You’re performing. You know it, they know it, and it’s the worst feeling in the world.

But maybe that’s not how you’re supposed to find your people. Maybe it starts with showing up somewhere you actually want to be, like that painting workshop or film club or open mic you’ve bookmarked a couple of months ago.

There was no master plan when you made friends in school. You just showed up. Again and again. That’s still the secret.

that’s a wrap! ✨ what an absolute joy seeing an idea come to life FROM SCRATCH

‘Words of Wisdom’ brought together advice and life lessons from older generations across Southwark and were transformed into bold letterpress posters

None of this would have happened without a HUGE group effort:
💛 The 5 community centres who welcomed the project in its early stages
💛 The 12 incredible workshop facilitators who volunteered their time to run completely free creative sessions
💛 The 5 person dream team who helped build this pop-up gallery from the ground up
💛 The landlord who let me borrow the space
💛 10 musicians from the Peckham Chamber Orchestra for gifting us an unforgettable closing night performance
💛 The 3 photographers who captured the project perfectly
💛 Gipsy Hill Brewery for donating 100 beers

I love bringing people together through print and seeing strangers connect and create in this space was everything xx

CAN’T WAIT TO DO IT ALL AGAIN!! 🤠 michelle

A great moment to see the installation of our Diwali banners go up at the National Maritime Museum. COMMONGROUND& was commissioned to create these banners which will go up annually for Diwali.

As a platform for South Asian creatives, we created this wonderful opportunity for artists to have their work shown at the museum.

You can see this work at COMMONGROUND& Diwali celebrations at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich this Saturday 25th 10am-5pm. Workshops, activities and performances are all free.
