September Dump:

I’d like to think of these photo dumps as a public-facing visual archive of my life, organized discreetly into 12 collections of roughly 15-20 units(photos).

I was thinking about how what I’m most proud of are the relationships that I have built in my life. They're the product of hard work, and likely what will flash before my eyes in the moments before I inevitably depart from the conscious world, iA, many, many decades from now.

That’s the guiding…safe premise.

But at the same time, I can’t help but think that if I were to solicit the fancy of a Mademoiselle, she would perform a compulsory audit of my social media.

There she would see that I do in fact have friends, I am not lonely, there are interesting things happening in my life, I have some degree of social competence and relational intelligence, there are people who put up with me voluntarily, I am able to make plans, I can maintain consistency in relationships meaning that I can navigate conflict and repair, I am financially competent enough to participate in social activities, I will not rely on a romantic partner for all of my relational needs, I have people who can hold me accountable and so much more.

…or is it me trying to convince myself that I’m not lonely and I have all those things?

No, no, no its a humble public-facing visual archive of my life.

We all contain multitudes.

Today I step onstage at OCB’s championships— the Yorton Cup, which has been my goal this year. It’s just one step in my journey, and can’t wait to see how it goes.

May & June Dump:

These past couple of months, I've been thinking a lot about self-esteem.

How it and confidence leads to a greater sense of agency, which is ultimately beneficial to oneself, the people in one's life, and society at large. Self esteem makes you more reliable to others.

Then there is trust and worthiness- Self-esteem is the believing that your perceptions, judgments, intuition and actions are worth trusting. This is earned trust.

It reduces the potential for resentment and passivity. Resentment flourishes when people perceive themselves as unable to make meaningful choices.

People can achieve greater interpersonal depth with one another when there is a foundation of healthy self-esteem. Where there is more self-esteem, there is greater alignment with one's values and greater truthfulness to oneself and others. Where there is more agency, there is more empowerment. More empowerment means more responsibility, and strong self-esteem makes that responsibility feel attractive instead of threatening.

Then there is physical agency in addition to psychological agency, both profound, powerful, and interconnected in such a way that they become almost indistinguishable.

I could not have anticipated that it would take me until 31 years of age to feel this kind of self-esteem.

One quote that has stayed with me is:

"Self-esteem is the reputation you have with yourself."

I got 3rd place in my class (True Novice) at my first bodybuilding show!!! 🐴🐴🐴

This is an incredibly rewarding and fascinating sport.

I’m overwhelmingly thankful for some of my friends who have been such critical parts of my journey to get here.

Firstly, to @shreddynep who supported me so much in understanding so much of the technical side to posing, body composition, mindset and preparation. I have no clue where I’d be without his graciousness and passion.

To @sravyabas who I has inspired and encouraged me so much to be tenacious, curious and to be enjoying myself all the while.

To my friends @tobi.wan.kinobi and @chandlerooms who used their Saturday to support me at my competition and whose words of encouragement made me feel so loved and supported.

To @jenx_liu who was kind enough to lend her ballet knowledge to me so that I’d have more technical grace with my posing and be less stiff.

To @leonsbench_emporium who helped build the technical foundation for my training upon which I have gotten to this point of muscle development.

And to my mom and brothers who have been very loving and supportive of my aspirations.

For me, I got 3rd and I was happy with that because bodybuilding is fair, it's one of the few pursuits where effort, discipline, patience, knowledge and self-awareness are reflected directly in the outcome. Every decision for every workout, every meal, every hour of sleep is compounded into the end result. The body truly does keep the score.

In this process, I have developed a more tender relationship with myself- because I’ve had to coach myself. I have more rapport with myself now which has resulted in more self-esteem, self-respect and self-love.

It is an enormous privilege to be able to do this sport. I am so grateful.
