Happy New Year! Is it too late to say that? It is technically still January Learned to create this vintage postcard of my hometown from @lisabardot Postcard in Procreate” @skillshare class. If “Home is the happy (wala) place (brand plug-in, cheap shot, I know), then I live in what is named as “the happiest city” in America by @wallethub five years in a row. (Don’t believe me? Google it!) Some fun facts about Fremont: 1. Fremont’s Niles District was the earliest home to California’s motion picture industry. It was essentially “Hollywood”. Charlie Chaplin filmed several of his silent films in Fremont area, including the famous “The Tramp” right here in our backyard. Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum still stands today in the Niles District as an homage to the Silent Movie Era of Buster Keaton, Bronco Billy, and of course, Charlie Chaplin. (Scroll through to see picture of the Museum). @nilesfilmmuseum 2. Fremont was home to a thriving viticulture industry, at the turn of 19th Century, at the foothills of Mission Peak from Niles District to Warm Springs. The most notable was the Gallegos - Palmdale Winery in the Irvington area. The owner, Juan Gallegos, built state-of-the-art three-story brick winemaking plant surrounded by gardens and beautiful palm trees right on the Hayward fault line that produced excellent Zinfandel that rivaled with Napa Valley. Unfortunately, phylloxera, 1906 Earthquake, and poor economy completely destroyed the plant and the industry overall. The remains of the Winery with the beautiful palm trees are still visible today at the intersection of Washington Blvd and Osgood Rd. (See last picture on the post). 3. Fremont is formed of 5 distinct individual townships - Mission San Jose, Centerville, Niles, Irvington, and Warm Springs. 4. Fremont was home to Apple’s first Mac computer manufacturing plant.

My students think they're learning from me (well, they are 😄), but I feel there is so much more I get from them. It's a beautiful thing. 💕#piecesworkshops . Thank you to: Stacy, Barbara, Janny, Serena, Geraldine, Arlene, Ellen, Ann, Jocelyn, Vanessa, April, Krystle, Adine, & Sujanitha. It was magical taking you into the world of brush calligraphy.
