As a young 😉 business owner, there’s a number of things I need to consider as I grow with my business, one of the more important items is saving for my retirement. So when I was asked to work on a campaign with @AARP and @AdCouncil to remind AA women the importance of preparing financially for retirement, I was elated! I was just as ecstatic to be working with a majority AA and women production teams. We had an amazing time in #Brooklyn shooting these awesome ads. Shout out to the creative team/agencies @wearejoycollective and @220thstreet on producing an amazing experience and product. Shout out to the queen director @staceymuhammed on your awesome direction. Another campaign in the books for #madworksphoto and I’m super humbled. 🙌🏾Thank you @emmareelle for holding me down all week and @_shanicemarie for your continuous guidance. This was a true... “Tribute to our Sheroes”

"Forget about the odds and do it anyway. Ignore the naysayers. Perfect your craft. This is a spiritual journey that will break you before it makes you into the storyteller you were born to be. Go with it. As Black women, we have unique, powerful, magical stories to release that will undoubtedly heal our lives, our families, our blocks, our hoods, our world. Trust the process." Soooo one day almost a year ago, I was planting seedlings in the greenhouse at TLW downtown, getting ready for the spring and summer crops. I heard something above my head that sounded like a extra large mosquito . When I came outside to check out what was going on, I saw a man in a hard hat with a remote control , and looked up and noticed that he was flying a drone. This was a surveyor.

That's all I needed to see to confirm what was coming next, something the architects of Wheat Street Garden and so much of the great works TLW has done, long before I became a part of the work there, surely had seen in the cards. Unfortunately, based on the political reality which includes the disproportionate distribution of wealth , urban agriculture has become a tool for regentrification.

That's a long discussion in itself, but that's not the point of this post. Oftentimes in life, we are pushed into greatness . We are pushed into freedom. That's what Harriet Tubman did for us , and so many others.
The reason that drone was flying above was that it was flying above property that we did not OWN, and the owners, a historic black church, felt the need to sell it to so called developers. This here is a new day, baby . "Look mom, our own land!"

When one door is closed, another is opened..
Transformation time again. One block from Omenala, walking distance from Morehouse and other AUC campuses, right across the street from our children elementary school, up the street from Malcolm X Park, up from the beltline.... right where we want to be, putting the NEIGHBOR black in the hood. Pray for us. Our success is your nutrition.
