POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hello, photographer and film maker @clickclickjim here taking over the Studio in the Woods account this week whilst I edit a film @nyimamurry and I made about this summers edition with @tongh_97 @jaimeolivianelson @mr.hamaniiiii as part of our film making mentorship. Yesterday I posted about Act 1, where our participants have received their call to action. That inciting incident takes us into Act 2.

In our story telling structure Act 2 traditionally sees a rapid rise in action. For instance in Macbeth, it’s Act 2 where Macbeth kills Banquo and MacDuff decides to rise his own army against him. SiTW is usually far less dramatic. In the forest, our teams enter their first build day with huge enthusiasm. It’s a period of rapid learning, where participants (who, for the most part, have never built anything before) get on the tools for the first time. There’s trials and challenges, but they’re largely approached with energy and enthusiasm. The atmosphere in Act 2 of your typical SiTW is of excitement and bristling activity. A sense that nothing can stop our teams, except for the dreaded Act 3 which I’ll go into tomorrow…

Photos in this section come from SiTW editions I documented in 2017, 2018, 2019 and this year, plus some behind the scenes pics from our filming this year.

Join us on Tuesday August 16th from 5-8pm at @koppel__x in Piccadilly Circus for the launch of Room for Non-Negotiation: A School SOS Anthology.

Over 3 months, 11 emerging creatives were given access to leading cultural institutions and practitioners through @sch_sos, a speculative experimental design school aimed at countering the current dominant mode of neoliberal education in the arts and beyond.

The school culminated in a multimedia 2-week exhibition at the @southlondongallery last year, tackling themes from the UK's hostile environment policy, to India's imposition of blackouts in Kashmir. Given a few months of space from the programme and exhibition, Room for Non-Negotiation: A School SOS Anthology presents the students’ and guest practitioners’ reflections and responses to this creative pursuit.

Should rivers have rights?

‘You can tell the colour of the season by the colour of the river’. The Turag, The Buriganga and The Balu are three main rivers in Bangladesh. They are now biologically dead from activities of the Anthropocene. Chromium, Lead and Cadmium flow through the water and into the bodies of communities who depend on the rivers. Nature gives us our basic human rights, so should it have the same rights as us?

Research exhibited @southlondongallery showing alongside some amazing designers, artists and researchers. Not going to say more, as go down and check it out yourself!

On until Sunday 28th November @ The fire station gallery

UCA BA (Hons) Architecture student Stan Chick @stan_chick used his last project to create a typology of homes for a collective of carpenters, arborists, ecologists and forest management workers on a site in Chartham, currently home to 12 abandoned Victorian paper mill worker’s homes.

Stan said, "As part of this, I explored the possibility of re-planting a forest across the disused area of the site to provide materials for construction, as well as firewood for the inhabitants of my housing proposal, establishing a circular economy."
