Today is Archive, a programme of talks about design archives and history organised by @aignany and @standardsmanual. And how better to mark a day about preserving design history than by making something to preserve?

All attendees got a copy of this limited-edition newspaper, featuring a very fine selection of mid-century posters from @_mattlamont’s collection. It’s going straight into our archives, of course!

SLICE OF CHEESE, PLEASE: Having a NICE TIME all around New York with my little “0 Minutes Wait” subway siren @leighola77. We're walking until our feet have heartbeats, dining on delicious fare, reveling in antiquity, Wikipedia'ing places on Leigh's history hit list and generally taking in all the sights, sounds, sweats, stinks, stanks and SMELLS of New York City. Tomorrow? We have OFFICIAL BUSINESS OF THE HIGHEST ORDER at the Archive Conference. Been waiting for my big moment to tell my stinky, little story the dang whole year. I got 45 minutes to jam it into those people. 43 minutes of multimedia mayhem and 2 minutes for apologizing for my face and unapologetic merch load.

El próximo 19 de septiembre estaré en Nueva York participando en ARCHIVE, una conferencia dedicada a las distintas formas de preservar, organizar, activar y traer al presente los archivos de diseño.

Compartiré una retrospectiva de Crónicas Visuales del Abya Yala, un archivo visual que he construido durante más de dos décadas a partir de la observación, documentación y análisis de repertorios gráficos de culturas originarias del Abya Yala, y mostraré cómo este archivo visual ha ido transformándose en sistemas modulares, tipografías y herramientas de autor.

Me emociona especialmente compartir este espacio junto a grandes speakers, cada uno con sus propias maneras de construir, preservar y activar archivos. Creo que será una oportunidad muy enriquecedora para aprender de otras experiencias y, al mismo tiempo, mostrar lo que vengo desarrollando desde Ecuador, desde esta parte del Abya Yala, a través de mi propia práctica de investigación y creación.

ARCHIVE es organizada por Standards Manual y AIGA NY y tendrá lugar en el Katie Murphy Amphitheatre del Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Manhattan, Nueva York. Mi presentación será a las 3:30 p. m.
