Bob Costas nailed it. Donald Trump treats honesty like a foreign language he has no intention of learning. Truth is optional, being straightforward is apparently a character flaw, and “they’re eating the dogs, they’re eating the cats” somehow passes for presidential discourse. But sure, tell us more about how he’s restoring dignity to the office. Nothing says serious leadership like sounding like the relative everyone regrets handing the microphone to at Thanksgiving.

The damage isn’t just that he says these things. It’s that we’re expected to keep lowering the bar until this sounds normal. Instead of demanding answers, we debate whether he meant it literally. Instead of expecting basic decency, we’re told to appreciate his “style.” He’s supposed to be the president, not some wacko in the Oval Office auditioning for a conspiracy podcast. Expecting him to tell the truth shouldn’t make you his political enemy. It should make you a person with functioning standards.

“The best economy we’ve ever seen.” Of course, Kevin. And apparently the rest of us are just shopping incorrectly. Please tell Americans their problem isn’t rising prices, it’s their inability to appreciate how wonderful everything is. What a convenient arrangement: the administration takes credit for prosperity, and you get blamed for noticing your bills. Apparently, “misrepresenting the facts” now means bringing a receipt to the conversation.

And what happened to all those lectures about fiscal responsibility? Apparently, debt is only a crisis when someone else is president. When Trump is in charge, borrowing becomes brilliance, frustration becomes ingratitude, and every uncomfortable question becomes an attack. What a remarkable economic strategy: declare everything wonderful, dismiss anyone who disagrees, and hope Americans believe the press conference instead of their bank accounts.

Propagandized gaslighting at its most pathetic.

Nothing says “I’ve done my own research” like supporting a president whose decisions affect the entire world while struggling to name any of the countries in it. This woman has absolute confidence in Trump, just a few minor gaps in her knowledge of planet Earth. Apparently, the world consists of America, places that should thank America, and places she’ll learn about when someone on television tells her to be angry at them. But please, tell us more about your sophisticated understanding of foreign policy. We’ll get the crayons.

The problem isn’t that one Trump supporter bombed a geography quiz. It’s the certainty that knowing less somehow makes your opinion more credible. Trump sells “only I can fix it,” and his most unquestioning fans don’t seem particularly interested in asking what “it” is, how he’ll fix it, or whether he helped break it. When your entire worldview comes from one source, everything else starts to look like fake news. This video is a perfect little portrait of that mindset: proudly uninformed, fiercely opinionated, and somehow convinced everyone else needs to wake up.
