Let’s talk about the “Song of Impartation” from the pages of my debut novel, A Great and Powerful Tyranny! As the protagonist Thia quests through the land of Eldris, she comes across a group of magical beings called the Losrohir (think elves from Lord of the Rings meets dryads). They use the power of song to give life to the forest that sustains them in a ceremony called the Festival of Impartation, which Thia witnesses. Bringing this musical scene to life was everything I love most about being both a musician and an author. I had a very specific sound in mind when I wrote the scene, but it took lots of collaboration to do it justice. Without giving too much away, the song begins with one voice, but more Losrohir join in, one after the next, until they are all singing one song with many distinct parts. I really wanted to honour this in the composition, so I was blessed to work with the many creators of @bookish_songs. My voice begins the song; I sent that part to @taylorashmusic, a fabulous film composer, along with the book scene and some chords, and she fleshed out the instrumentation around it. We then harnessed our BSC friends and let them add their own individually written parts, one after the next, just as it happens in the book. The result is something infinitely more cool and strange (positive) than anything I could’ve come up with writing all the parts myself, and it is everything I dreamed it could sound like when I wrote that scene. Biggest thank you to @fromthesaga @iamalexheart @stanzalune @tessabarcelo and of course @taylorashmusic for lending your voices to my vision. For you listeners, see if you can pick out the distinct parts! A Great and Powerful Tyranny and its accompanying soundtrack is out everywhere now! #agreatandpowerfultyranny #bookishsongs #wizardofoz #musiccomposition

Hey, everyone. It's been a while. I had to take a good month off from reviews because I had a medical emergency that left me hospitalized with a concussion, temporal fracture, and slight brain bleed (not fun). I had always planned on returning to reviews once my health was back to normal, however, I have been watching all my submissions pile up and more and more time passed, and I realized that, at least temporarily, I did not have the drive, passion, or brain capacity to continue writing in-depth analyses and reviews of music. Most of you are probably unaware that I have been operating my own solo music project for over twelve years at this point, Strangeness In Proportion. I had spent years and years writing and recording my last album, and once it was finally released in August of 2024, I decided I'd take my sights off my solo project and maybe try to give back to the community in different ways. Start a new passion project, still in the same realm, and see what could come out of it! Well, that project turned into CD-ROM Rabbit Hole Inter-Reviews. We made it just over the one-year mark, and in that single year we were able to accomplish so much. I was able to work with musicians I have admired for YEARS and I was also privileged enough to discover so many new artists and make friends with many of them. For that, I cannot even begin to express my gratitude. To celebrate our one-year anniversary, we even got a group of Featured Artists to contribute to a cover compilation where we were able to donate over $200 to Rock To The Future, a nonprofit organization that provides music lessons and instruments to underprivileged or at-risk children. It saddens me deeply that I have to say goodbye to this project, at least for the foreseeable future, but this has been a pressing issue for a while, and I kept trying to push the thought deeper and deeper into the back of my head, but it kept coming back louder.
