October has been good, slow but good. I love fall because it feels like REAL fall. September is mostly pieces of August, leaves haven’t changed, air isn’t crisp yet. And November (in the Midwest at least) is basically winter, it usually snows before thanksgiving & it starts to get cold, not crisp.

》The Anguished Earth, ( & The Scour ) are both on my TBR for Novella November. Will be my Swan intro!

》Killswitch Protocal along with MJ's other books has been on my TBR. I just know I'm gonna love it!

》Requim of Dice along w/ Wolff's other short stories sounds perfect for my grimdark heart, Nov. Reads.

》A Songbirds Tale was another giveaway but I also got The audio & am going with that for this, soon!

》A Dirge for Casius, some of my fave ppl have rec'd this to me & I'm so very curious about it!

》Ghost of Hakimi sounds awesome! I'm really pumped to get into this one, possibly a buddy read.

lord of tides🔱🌊🥀

“𝙄 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙.”

lord of tides is a dark, character driven reimagining of the odyssey and i absolutely devoured it. i rated it five stars and it deserved every single one and more. i mean just have a read of the quotes and you will understand why🙂‍↕️

firstly, the writing was ✨stunning✨- so beautiful, atmospheric and poetic. the way k.d stark weaved the story and the world together was done so perfectly, especially the multiple pov’s that added so much to the story.

you follow odysseus who is overcoming several obstacles to get back to his kingdom. his wife. his son. the journey is difficult and demanding and even though i very much enjoyed his pov, it was penelope’s pov that had my heart. her strength and resilience to endure the many men seeking her hand, men who turned more violent the longer they stayed - you could literally feel the pressure she was under and her emotion through the page. i also loved their son’s pov - telemachus and his journey having to go from boy to man in order to protect the throne and his mother.

i went into this semi-blind as the story of odysseus and penelope is one of the myths i know the least, but as i read i became invested (i was literally researching the myth for days afterwards).

this was my first k.d stark book but definitely not my last, i actually already own her first book ‘where darkness bloomed’, which is a hades and persophone retelling and the fact its sat there unread may actually be a crime, so its jumped it’s way up to the tbr.

if you are looking for a good greek mythology retelling then i highly recommend you get this on your tbr…

A retelling of The Odyssey? Say less.

The Odyssey has always been one of my favorite stories, and K.D. Stark gives it new life here. It’s a dark, character-driven retelling that was so easy to fall into. I love her writing. It’s beautiful, and it makes this feel both familiar and completely her own.

I’m a sucker for Greek mythology retellings, and this one is so well done. You really feel connected to the characters, and that connection makes every experience hit harder. I have always loved Penelope, and she’s amazing in this book. The flashbacks with her and Odysseus were some of my favorite parts. More Penelope. Always. And can someone please get Calypso a Kindle? Girl was bored.

𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳.

Stark understands that the journey home is more than monsters and storms. It’s about who these people become, and who is still waiting. That’s the heart of this story, and she handles it beautifully.

This Odyssey retelling is enchanting. Besides meddling gods we get memories, experiences, and very human expressions. I loved that Stark gave these iconic characters more depth. We get to see them in whole new light but also have the characteristics we enjoyed about the original characters. Characters like Penelope got to be such a strong force in this realm and it was deeply needed. The stronghold against those who sought to take from her. It made Odysseus not the only hero to the story imo. The evolution of other characters while Odysseus was away was nice as well. Telemachus bearing such a heavy weight at such a young age was devastating but also admirable.

Stark has a beautiful way of writing and guiding you into the story. I enjoyed the poetic flow this had and felt it complimented the enchantment that the gods brought to the story. This was an adventure and I so enjoyed the ride.

Current Top 10 Books of the Year!

I just finished my 110th book this year. I wanted to read 52. One new book per week. I’ve got over double that and the year isn’t even over yet I’ve been so fortunate to encounter so many amazing authors and stories this year! So, here we are, halfway through October with my top 10 reads so far!
