I LOVE what I'm hearing from these two bands. Thrilled to play a MATINEE (a Matriarch's gotta matriarch) show at Real Art on Sunday Nov 19th!!! ALL AGES with doors at 1:30pm, which means your kiddos can come!

I'm so thankful we have a venue that is all ages and all inclusive here in Tacoma. So much of what inspired me as a youth happened in spaces like Real Art.

This will be my debut with the innovative and ballsy Pax Allen on drums! He is effing magical on the kit. You'll see.

BLOCK PARTY ALERT! I feel like there isn't enough attention on this wonderful Black & LGBTQ owned community space/bookstore here in Tacoma. They're celebrating their 2nd birthday on August 20th with a free and family friendly block party, complete with delicious eats and awesome music! So excited to share the stage with Drea & the Marilyns, who just released a BEAUTIFUL album, and to be a part of this celebration. See you there!

Big thank you to @raphdoesthings for the beautiful photos from our first show as Star Matriarch on May 28th at Real Art. I also managed to borrow Aziz from Kuwaisiana (who absolutely killed it, btw) for more guitar power on a few songs. I've said this a bunch of times already but seriously, playing with musicians who are not only talented but sweet and super communicative makes all the difference. I really lucked out in finding Rose and Yousef (who psst also is also an awesome drum teacher, btw)

So grateful to the venue for taking a chance on us, being completely new! We struggled with sound issues at first but once resolved, the show was 🔥
Because Real Art is all ages, my 5 year old was able to come see her mama on that stage! I'm a firm believer in spaces like Real Art who provide a safe, inclusive venue for people of all ages to inspire each other. Really thankful we have Real Art here in Tacoma.

Did you miss this show? Come see us at @thevalley this coming Friday with @elegantpleasuresband and @koakoala1 (see last image)

45b. Despite its relatively short duration, that 2011 tour contained most typical tour experiences. Gas station bathrooms. Long drives. Running into friends (I think we ran into @chris___richards at SXSW?). And, of course, getting a terrible stomach bug right before a show in Newport, KY. I managed to play through Carol Bui's set with a trash can beside me, but I had to cancel the Tereu Tereu set and run back to the bathroom. I think we canceled the next night's show as well (I feel for you @katiealicegreer / @insta_priests !). I think I was still a bit woozy when we rolled into Austin, but I did alright. Given that I'm mostly bedbound now, it's so strange to think back on all that traveling...

45a. Back in 2011, my old band Tereu Tereu went on tour with our friend Carol Bui down to SXSW in Austin. We were also Carol's backing band, so we essentially played two shows a night. It felt great! I got to play bass (my first real rock instrument), and we managed to cram a lot more music into 10 days than we normally would. Our time was packed extra tight at SXSW, where we played multiple shows a day. This was obviously before I got ME/CFS, or I would've collapsed from the effort. It was also during a pretty interesting, albeit brief, point in time where Tereu Tereu was a three-piece. Definitely the most ferocious era of the band.
