Patrick has become a piece of historical importance by reviving these fire boxes. What stands out to me the most is when I was a kid (80’s), I was told explicitly not to touch these boxes, only for emergency. These boxes lined every Brooklyn shopping avenue. Patrick took his ingenuity and sense of community spirit and made these boxes tangible. I not only look at the towers in a whole different light, but as I walk down the street I’m catching fire escapes, hydrants, steam pipes and tv antennas- all a part of the landscape of old Brooklyn that still very much exist. Accountability and ownership of your “block” has come to fruition with every fire box Patrick paints. The boxes are a piece of evolving art. As Patrick completes a tower, another New Yorker may throw their tag up or a sticker, it amplies the life that is encompassed in an inanimate object that is very much a living part of the city. Thank you Sweet P and Starr. You manifested greatness by documenting that ordinary deeds are quite extraordinary. 🔥💯✊🏽 #Winners 🪩💫

PEACE ☮️ Project interview with Candido Crespo from Central Islip School District. During teacher Candido Crespo’s first year with the P.E.A.C.E. Project he was enabled to give students the opportunity to experience photography in a new way and work directly with a contemporary artist in their classroom.

As Candido shares, “Having a contemporary artist in the classroom working with them really makes art real. It makes art as a career tangible.”

Through hands on experiences and connections with working artists, P.E.A.C.E. gives students the opportunity to explore their creativity while seeing the arts as a possible path for their future. Thank you, Candido, for being part of this year’s project! 💙

This partnership was made possible through the Patchogue Art Council’s PEACE Project (Partners in Education, Arts and Community Empowerment), a US Department of Education Assistance with Arts Education funded program.

🆓You’re invited to the PEACE Forward: Arts in Education + Partnerships = Possibility Conference

PAC P.E.A.C.E. Project interview with Alina Wilczynski 💙 Teaching artist Alina Wilczynski has been part of the P.E.A.C.E. Project for four years, witnessing firsthand what happens when artists, teachers, administrators, and students are given the time and space to create together.

As Alina shares, the P.E.A.C.E. Project creates space for exploration, collaboration, and creativity. Something that can be hard to find in today’s classrooms, but is so important for everyone involved. Thank you to Alina and all of the incredible teaching artists, educators, administrators, students, and partners who made this year’s P.E.A.C.E. Project so special. We can’t wait to see where it goes next.
