POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Be it disasters triggered by #ClimateChange or pandemic of the scale of #COVID19, emerging challenges show us that reducing disaster impact and building resilient communities will require long-term and systemic shifts – in the ways we live, build, work and interact with the environment. While the macro challenges are similar across the region, the solutions must be tailored to local areas.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Truly addressing these challenges cannot be done without an aware, trained and empowered local leadership at its heart. From #community champions to #civilsociety leaders, it is local leadership at a sub-national level that will be drivers for lasting change.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Debates around localisation have often been confined to that of funding. Reports show that less than 3% of the funding goes directly to local aid organisations. The issue is also about parity and recognising capacity.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
.⠀
Local leadership is often the reason behind disasters that don’t happen, addressing daily stresses and looking at long-term issues that funding cycles prohibit. Additionally, local leadership also has an increasingly important role to play in early detection of risks that could potentially go out of control, in early warning in increasing uncertainties, and in achieving Target E of the Sendai Framework.

Most of our seniors in Uganda Africa are affected with health problems like hypertension, stroke, diabetes, heart diseases, trachoma and blindness that often lead to complications and permanent incapacitation
Our seniors can hardly afford the costs of traveling to the health facilities at the sub district or in Urban areas where they could access medical supplies and attention

@papashands we move a distance and meet our seniors door to door providing free medical checkups and advices concerning the health of our seniors
Join us as we help the less cared seniors to provide them with hope and care in changing their lives

During a pandemic, information saves lives. Our partner, Start Network, is working with local organisations to make sure people living in low-income countries like Haiti and South Sudan have the information to protect themselves from COVID-19. We’ve donated €1.5 million to support Start Network’s work during the pandemic. Read our latest web story.
