DOUBLE SPINE, DOUBLE TOUCH – Becoming a Shell, 2026

was part of DRAWN FROM QUIET WATERS
Curated by Nicola E. Petek

Kagairyokuen, 87-1 Ro, Minami-machi, Yamanaka Onsen, Kaga City, Ishikawa 922-0129, Japan
October 10 – October 18, 2026

With: Andreas Schmid, Dennis Scholl, Stella Geppert, Willem Besselink, Runa Ikeda, Tatsuhiro Kawasaki, Shinichi Moriguchi, Daigo Ohmura / Performance: Frida Eun Ae Yngvesson, Shinichiro Ikeda, Runa Ikeda (iYi) / Sound performance: Shinichiro Ikeda, Yuuki Asamura (mii89)

DOUBLE SPINE, DOUBLE TOUCH – Becoming a Shell consists of a canvas on which the artist has made visible the traces of massage points created by tapping on two backs. The two views of the backs are turned toward each other and mirrored. Viewed as a whole, the object reveals a clearly recognizable pattern whose oval shape is reminiscent of a shell or an insect. This “double-sided back apron” serves both as a separating layer and as a matrix for imprinting caring and protective touches, with the canvas becoming a skin of its own—an interstitial space between two bodies. As part of the exhibition, the mutual contact between two people is extended through the canvas, as two individuals gently pat each other on the back through the canvas; the artist then makes these marks visible again using graphite dust.

1-3: Snow Carrier, 2026
Snow Carrier is a floor relief cast in silicone, into which the tracks of various animal species have been imprinted. Some of these tracks are real, others are replicas. It illustrates how we share space – the Earth’s surface – with other species. The material typically used in sculpture to reproduce the same forms over and over is employed here as a unique piece, alluding to the age of fossil fuels from which the silicone was originally derived. Overall, the cast resembles a tapestry depicting a picturesque snowy landscape, as the earthy residue of the footprint is, in turn, imprinted into the silicone layer.

Francisco Diego and Stella Geppert
BETWEEN THE BODY AND BELONGING, 2025
Documentation of the exhibition at
‘El Hub MX’, Ciudad de México as part of B-LA-M Festival represented by HAUNT / Fronviews
@franciscodiego.art @stella.geppert

The Mexican and German artists Francisco Diego and Stella Geppert engage in a dialogue between matter and language. Through movements, objects, and hybrid words, they explore the shifting boundary between the personal and the collective, between the loss and the search for identity. Their work emerges from the friction between languages and territories: when one tongue merges with another, a new sense of belonging arises. In that in-between space —where the body remembers and language transforms — both artists ask what it still means to inhabit without erasing what was already there. In the dialogue between Stella Geppert and Francisco Diego, a pair of embroidered socks and a wall covered in words speak about what is lost when we try to fit in. The phrases mix languages like someone searching for a place where their voice feels their own. Between what is seen and what is left unsaid, the works reveal the distance between how we are seen and how we truly feel. There is tenderness, but also fatigue: empathy appears as a fragile gesture against the habit of not looking. In that honesty, simplicity becomes depth.

BETWEEN THE BODY AND BELONGING
The German Stella Geppert and Mexican artist Francisco Diego engage in a dialogue between matter and language.

Francisco Diego’s work involves a sensitive exploration of the layers that make up identity: gender, personal history, and emotional heritage. Stella Geppert’s work focuses on embodied communication. She explores the energetic states of the body and unconscious movements.

After five days of intensive rehearsals with fantastic dancers, I am delighted to present an extended version of

MORNING MOON
09 27 | 18:05 - 18:50
Bernardiny sodas, near the fountain, Vilnius (LT)

As Part of @artisticactionweek / MAS‘25 festival

Concept: Stella Geppert / Support: @lmta_dance / Invited by Agnietė Lisičkinaitė, Greta Grinevičiūtė @be_kompanijos

Performance with LMTA sokio studentés (LT): Dėdinaitė Emilija, Groblytė Barbora, Jautakaitė Armantė, Kaparkalēja Kate, Karosas Eunike, Šaltenytė Beatričė, Subačiūtė Rebeka Rugilė, Šunauskaitė Urtė, Valvonytė Kamilė, Vlasova Sofiia

Morning Moon explores the interplay of breathing, movement, and sound. Every movement associated with inhalation and exhalation becomes sound - the movement of the diaphragm, the expansion of the chest and the modulation of the body are revealed through the sound of the harmonica. The body is formed from within and without, and harmonies and dissonances, contrasts and connections allow us to hear what usually remains invisible. This artistic action explores the musicality of rhythm, touch, and inner communication, revealing the connections between the physical and planetary states—visibility and invisibility, gravity
and weightlessness, holding and letting go. It is an invitation to experience the connections with rhythm, energy, and musicality that lie within all living and non-living matter.

MAS’25 is partly funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture Partners: Vanduo Vytautas, Kalba Plytos, Vilnius City
Municipality

The exhibition DON’T TOUCH! stages this shift in aesthetic perception in the spatial environment as a down to the ground site and in this (perspectival) way also speculates on the various levels of the context, even beyond the art space and at the same time on the “invisible” artwork as an experience in non-artistic places: the information is rearranged as well as the contexts of meaning, which thus repeatedly emerge in a new form. Does this also mean a de-aestheticization of artistic forms? And does it answer the question of whether this is art here or elsewhere? At the same time, the exhibition speculates with “Leerstellen (interpretational gaps)” about the reception-aesthetics and the role of the viewer, not only in the context of space, but also of absence. I will be showing the performative sculpture „Broken Cloud“ from the series „Two Feet Seven Inches“ from 2018, in which I collectively dealt with gestures of coal mining and landscape appropriation.
