Great American Treasures Road Trip: Heston and Midnight are on the move again! After their stop at Dumbarton House in Washington, D.C., the cats have made their way to Philadelphia for their next Great American Treasure: Stenton! Completed in 1730, Stenton is one of Philadelphia’s earliest and best-preserved historic houses. Built as a country estate for James Logan, a Quaker merchant, politician, scholar, and secretary to William Penn, the house was home to six generations of the Logan family and a diverse community of enslaved, indentured, and free laborers. Today, Stenton remains remarkably well-preserved, with 18th- and 19th-century Logan family objects and furnishings that help tell the story of early Pennsylvania. Stenton is also known for its beautiful Colonial Revival Garden, which was the founding site of the Garden Club of America in 1913. Through tours, educational programs, and special events, Stenton continues its mission of preservation, education, and community, connecting visitors with the people and stories of Philadelphia’s early history. The site is also home to the Dinah Memorial, Philadelphia’s only monument dedicated to a formerly enslaved woman. Heston and Midnight’s Great American Treasures road trip continues! Stay tuned to see where they travel next! #XimenezFatioHouseMuseum #XimenezFatioHouse #Stenton

Saturday morning at @stentonmuseum. ⚡ District 8 came out, and 50 laptops went home. Our Digital Navigators helped our neighbors get set up and book follow-up support. As we recognize Digital Inclusion Week, this is one small example of the work we are doing to not only increase access to technology for Philadelphia residents, but also help them build confidence in using it. Thank you to the Stenton Park Advisory Council for connecting us with your community, and to @cindybassphilly for partnering with us on the Power Up Tour. #DigitalInclusionWeek #PhillyTech #OITPhl #PowerUpTour

We had the honor of returning to @stentonmuseum last month. The grounds are just as lovely as they’ve always been. There was a great hue of autumn among the shaded meadow and the trees held mostly green with a little tinge of change. We are so thankful to be welcomed once again by the staff there. We wondered at a curious Eastern Wood Pewee and chuckled at some Northern Flickers. Folks were delighted at intimate views of the flickers in good light. We were able to study the plumage and that delighted many. Looking forward to getting back there again soon. Please consider a visit and get all the info you need at Stenton.org #birding #Community

. Pennsylvania Quakers - Patriots of Peace Their Historic Houses in Southeast Pennsylvania. Stenton Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Stenton was built around 1730 for James Logan, an Irish-born Quaker who became one of the most powerful men in colonial Pennsylvania. As William Penn’s secretary, a merchant, politician, and scholar, Logan lived at the center of Philadelphia’s Quaker world. The house reflects an important Quaker tension: a plain and restrained exterior, but a grand scale and refined interior. At Stenton, Quaker simplicity and colonial wealth met in one of Philadelphia’s great early Georgian houses. See the link in my bio for my website about historic Quaker houses. #QuakerHistory #Stenton #Germantown #PhiladelphiaHistory #quakersoninstagram
