Upstate Art Weekend 2026 has arrived. Last week’s opening reception of Invading Spaces by DARNstudio has me feeling beyond grateful for every artists and curator who has trusted me as a stumble through the art world, operations, and culture. Seven exhibitions in a year and we keep it moving.

Invading Spaces is a very timely and special exhibition at @creative.legion. Connecting with Ron and David (@darnstudios) has made the world of art feel less daunting as the work reminds us to stop and remember and then repeat.

This time last year, I was standing in awe in the doorway of reception. The gallery walls were coated with red, couches, lamps, tables all being schelped in with grace and intention. Phillip Collins and the Good Black Art were bustling and transforming. Through Waiting Room at UAW 2025 taught me what it is to activate around art in a way, unbeknownst to me, is innovative, unique and inviting. Artists talks, book launches, documentary screenings and on. It was a pace I wanted to keep.

And that we did — shows up and down every 8–10 weeks, leaning hard on the kindness of artists and curators willing to trust us while I quietly had no idea what I was doing. All i really knew was I wanted to artist and curator community to feel our support.

Then came Tara Foley. Three exhibitions later I genuinely don’t know what we did to deserve her. She keeps taking risks with us that more established galleries wouldn’t. She has made our space feel like a NYC gallery. And now has connected us with DARNstudio to round out this time with keep meaning and connection.

After this exhibition, we will jump back into artist takeovers. A quarterly moment to display comprehensive surveys of works that uplift our space and give our members a new creative zone to emerge into. Thank you @charlesthomasoneil for being our first.

Art is the heartbeat of what we’ve built at (Creative Legion). I really may not know what is what but I do know it really can and does bring some glorious humans together. And for that, I am grateful.

RUTHANN is pleased to present Requited Configurations, a twelve-person exhibition of sculptural works by Natalie Beall, Charlotte Beckett, Damien Davis, Mark Dion, Shanti Grumbine, Nicholas Hamilton, Peter Hoffmeister, Jessi Li, David Lukowski, Scott Penkava, Monika Zarzeczna and Steph Zimmerman. Curated by Witts @wittsart

Requited Configurations

A response or return to love.

An arrangement of elements in a particular form, figure or combination.

This exhibition offers sculpture in a variety of forms and combinations. Feelings are not always reciprocated in life, but sculptures generously requite us with their vibrations of energy, mass, volume and surface. When experienced in person they can create awe, appreciation and a subjective sense of physicality, leading us to something curious or unforeseen within ourselves.
The artists in this exhibition work with three-dimensional forms in varying and unexpected arrangements, presenting us with visual systems to navigate along with their interconnected loopholes. The artists in Requited Configurations lovingly fabricate, collect, build and assemble their objects and visual worlds, celebrating the possibilities and delights of new combinations.

10% of RUTHANN’s portion of art sales will go directly to support Mental Health Association of Columbia and Greene Counties @mhacgc
