POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Built like a house of cards out of slip-trailed phrases like cage fight, flooded, freedom, UFC, spectacle, slopaganda, octagon girls, !CE and despite, the porcelain structure in this piece ended up throne-like, to my surprise. The base emerged from the word circus, and, to latch on to a landscape of some hope, I made multicolored “despite” clouds to encircle it. The aura needed interruption, though, so to deny direct access I made a mini chain link fence.

Collectively, I am calling it Despite.

Despite the intensity of what seems like a new boiling point moment every day, I am proud and grateful beyond words to be a part of this beautiful exhibit with my colleagues at the @hartfordartschool . It’s an honor to see my piece nestled between Jared Holt’s unbelievable interactive sculpture and the brilliant photographs of @ellencareyphotography and @robertcalafiore . Gallery Director/Curator @adamcharleschau did an astute and elegant job arranging and installing the show. Stay tuned for more images of all the work.

On view through December 4 at Joseloff Gallery @universityofhartford @has_galleries

Post Script: Words. Stripes. Curves. Between lines of fears. Made this case installation yesterday at the New Britain Public Library @newbritlib — a perfect site for celebrating this founding anniversary and championing our independence of expression. Another iteration of my crowd-sourced FearShare project is pinned on the wall - text as bars - with some shard-containing word vessels in front.
.
Honored to contribute to a legacy of gatherings in this space featuring lectures by Mark Twain, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Thomas Nast. Protect our libraries. Protect art. Let those who have been silenced speak.

On view the month of July, 20 High St., @newbritainct

As a representative of @nceca , I was lucky enough this week to attend the @women_working_with_clay_symp at Hollins University in Roanoke. Thanks to 5 presenters, 2 directors and 70+ attendees, I learned, connected and felt so much. Big questions and laughs - as well as some tears - frosted the cake of this rich gathering of women and ceramics.
.
Thank you directors @darahartmanceramics and @donna_polseno , presenters @dinanursatti @maggiejaszczak , @kyungminpark929 , @lindsay_pichaske , and @lizquackenbush 🩵🩵🩵

Come chat with us at @fivepointsartsct this Friday! Panel artist talk at 6:30 pm with @see.y.cooper @nancy_hayes_art @bkaspr @collaging_not_aging and moderated by @susanboglefinnegan ✨
Our densely composed works in painting and sculpture are a joyride through pattern, complexity, compilation and color - can’t wait for what is sure to be a dynamic discussion of how they overlap.
.
Thanks to @kgoulet_art and @christian_crowley_art for making this happen!! Preview of my statement (for the curious) below.
.
“Words are elastic: loaded yet hollow. Communicating is slippery. Epistemology is fragile, brittle and tangled – yet rhythmic. Language is a betrayal and a lifeline. Clay can be all of these. My sculpture explores the concurrent ephemerality and gravity of text and the modes of communication that structure our realities. We are in a time when information itself has become political – and this is confusing. I employ unconventional uses of ceramic material combined with inherently traditional approaches in hopes of reaching a level below – or beyond – language.”
