Steph and I have had a wonderful day out in Oxford, enjoying the first rays of the spring sunshine and visiting the many historical sites there. First of all we visited The Eagle and Child pub which served as the meeting ground for a writing group called the Inklings, comprised of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis and others. We visited the gardens of Trinity College where we pretended we were in Hogwarts and yelled “Expelliarmus!” at each other. ⚡️😅 We visited the Museum of the History of Science where we saw Queen Elizabeth I’s Astrolabe and a blackboard Einstein used in a lecture on his General Theory of Relativity at Oxford University. 🤯 And many other fascinating items - 18th century medical instruments, a camera owned by C.S. Lewis, and many curious items used for navigation and astronomical charting. We also visited the Museum of Natural History and saw everything from dinosaur skeletons to Denovisan skulls and a statue of Aristotle. There was so much to look at! We also went up the medieval Saxon tower to see an aerial view of the city. Historians are not sure of its purpose; if it was built for battle fortifications or as a church tower. Of course, we also had to give in to temptation and have a massive donut. 🍩😋😅 All in all, it’s been a fun day, and we’ve still not seen everything there!
