✊🏽RCC-PTA is a 501(c)(3) advocacy organization (not a fundraising club). We don’t do bake sales. We demand adequate and equitable funding for our schools, and we hold our local government accountable when they don’t do that.
🫱🏻‍🫲🏾We serve all of the Roanoke Valley and encourage PTAs from surrounding counties to join us at our meetings or reach out to get involved or seek support.
🏆We recently won Virginia PTA Child Advocate PTA of the Year.
🗳️We have a big election coming up for 3 City Council positions. The results of that election will greatly impact the future of RCPS. Our job is to share the information that matters and continue to fight the good fight. If you’d like to join us, scan the QR code on the last slide and join your school’s PTA. We would love to see you at our next meeting: 9/23 @ 5:30, located in the Community Empowerment Center.

Recently @vivianforroanoke and @votevolosin joined in a protest on the steps of the municipal building for collective bargaining for public employees (teachers, firefighters, city employees, etc.).
The interesting thing about them being there is that state law permits them to individually adopt ordinances to authorize it. Because Gov. Abigail Spanberger vetoed statewide expansion bills (HB 1263/SB 378), the decision to unionize and collectively bargain remains entirely at the discretion of local governing bodies.
What they were protesting, they actually have the power to change.
It makes sense them being there when you realize they are both running for reelection right after voting to cut funding again to our public schools. The 3rd funding cut in the past 2 years.
Tomorrow the @roanokeschools School Board will vote on a budget that cuts the following:
🔸activity busses for Fall/Winter sports
🔸reduces the number of 3yr preschool programs from 9 to just 3
🔸PLATO for 3rd Grade
🔸170 positions city wide in the schools by and central office, of which 65 positions were filled and layoffs had to be carried out.
That is only some of the cuts. Our children and their teachers will feel these cuts deeply. Remember this when you go to vote in the Democratic Primary Election. Early voting starts June 18th with Election Day being Aug 4th.
You cannot vote in both Democratic and Republican primaries so we encourage you to participate in the one with the most candidates, the Democratic Primary.
Whatever you do, remember what has been taken from our schools, pay attention to who is showing up for us in REAL ways, and VOTE.

There are SO many 💎 we gained from our time in Atlanta (& don’t worry we’ll be back one day)

The one memory that we still talk about in 2026! is how @smarttrouble & the people SHUT DOWN a gas station because of how they treated us… that powerful moment fuels this mission even today— just imagine if we showed up like that everywhere in this society… but to be short & stick to the point lol

Do I want people to boycott #HamlarCurtis?! One of my favorite uncles is a staple there so ideally, I’d rather go with something that won’t affect him HOWEVER if it gets to that point & the owner doesn’t care about his own team, then I’d definitely say it’s time to #MakeACHAiNGE…

Meaning #CollectiveAction for ALL— @hopecenterofnw, his people, our people, NW, Roanoke in general! But in the meantime & between time if anyone has a #legalaid resource we’d greatly appreciate it! Y’know it’s already hard enough to be in the #nonprofit sector especially as Black women… imagine the struggle we had trying to show up 💯 last Saturday for the people with this on our shoulders!

These are unnecessary issues we don’t have the time, talent nor treasure to waste on! 💛🔗🤞🏾

It was a beautiful morning to dedicate The LEAP Hub! Thanks to our speakers: LEAP Board member Brent Cochran, Roanoke Vice Mayor Joe Cobb, Farmer and Market Vendor Cameron Terry, Executive Director Maureen McNamara Best, and community leader Amazetta Anderson. Thanks to all our community partners who celebrated 14 years of LEAP growth with us.

There were tales and tears and hugs and ladybugs. And of course amazing food! Thanks to LEAP Kitchen members Sycamore Snacks, Elote Alebrije, and By the Dozen — plus Berrier Orchards and Loca-Motive Aggregator for delicious local cherries.

On Saturday, all are invited to see our new building, sample more LEAP Kitchen members’ food, and celebrate the work LEAP does to nurture our food community. Join us June 3 from 3-6 pm, at 1027 Patterson Ave.

WOW, what a day. Today, I had the honors of cutting the ribbon to the official opening of @thequarters_coworking space. Bill Chapman, hired me to be the Concept Manager and to run the entire space, woo! I’m honored that he chose me and that he also wanted me to be the one to cut the ribbon. When, in reality he developed and put this all together to make it happen. I hope to make him and the community proud by making this a safe and great place for community and connection.

I met SO many amazing people today that are very involved in the Roanoke community. Shared this moment today with @roanokeecodev & government and council members. I absolutely loved chatting with Stephanie Moon Reynolds council member. Her stories were so inspiring and felt so full after speaking with her- to every single person I met in the community today and who came to support this new business and me it truly means the world. I’m still in awe that this opportunity presented itself and here I am front and center in it. With my dads 1 year of passing coming up, it makes my heart full knowing he would be so proud of me. I know he was cheering me on from above and I felt him with me all day long.

Roanoke has truly became a home for me and it’s because of how amazing the people and community are. Such genuine and great people. It is what you make of it. I’ve decided to put myself out there, make connections, be myself, share stories, connect, and to step up into my confidence era. I have a great feeling so much is going to come from this and truly it already has. Thank you again Bill I am truly honored and in awe of everything you do. You inspire me and SO many. So thankful🥹💖
