every room doesn't need to ask for attention. sometimes it's the quiet corners, the framed views, and the spaces in between that leave the biggest impression. #unionworks

A demolition delay could have derailed this Wellesley project—but instead, it inspired one of MetroWest’s most inventive homes. Rather than tearing down the 1930s Colonial, this team served its historic core and wrapped it in a striking contemporary addition, creating a home that seamlessly bridges past and present.

Inside, a dramatic steel-and-glass staircase floods the interiors with light, while walls of glass, warm oak millwork, and richly veined stone keep the modern spaces feeling inviting. Outside, the transformation continues with a hillside pool, rooftop deck, tennis court, and lush gardens that make the most of every inch of the challenging site. As Stern puts it, “The mission became... How do we do that and still get the house we want?” 🏡✨🌿

in the main house powder room of our newport beach project, the intention was to create a subtle moment of transition between the manicured landscape approach to the home and the more wild, windswept character of the sea beyond. a shift expressed through invisible grey marble, used here as a quiet gesture of differentiation from the other materials throughout the house. a vintage french rope mirror and pharmacy glass vases brings a sense of groundedness to the space. #unionworks

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending two insightful panels, each exploring how to design homes in response to their environments. From indoor-outdoor city spaces to coastal properties, we heard valuable perspectives from representatives of @flavinarchitects, @zen_associates, @mcldllc, @thecollaborativecompanies, @svdesign_architectureinteriors, @neubauerennis, and @sternmccafferty. Thank you to Flavin Architects and Boston Home Magazine for organizing such thoughtful conversations!
