💥MEET V-CON MAX - Smooth roads optional!

Bumps happen, but your camera doesn’t need to feel them.

V-Con Max – short for vertical control – is our new mechanical vertical stabiliser, built to take the shocks out of moving camera platforms.

It gives you 140mm of travel, handles payloads from 10–70kg and needs no motors or external power. So, it’s completely silent, too.

Mount it to a tracking vehicle, ATV, boat, dolly, speed rail – or something completely different.

And because it stays on the vertical axis, you keep a clear 360° field of view around the camera.

Naturally, we put it on a motorbike and sent stunt performer Rob Herring across some very uneven ground to test it.

“We were able to get very close to the stage using these robot systems called AGITOs, which were gold.” – James Cameron.

When James Cameron set out to film Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft tour in 3D, the usual approach to camera movement was never really going to cut it.

Live arena shows don’t really leave much room for track once you factor in crowds, staging, lighting, performers and thousands of people trying to have the best night of their lives.

Vis-A-Vis, the team behind production delivery on both the tour and accompanying immersive film, worked closely with Cameron’s crew to build movement workflows that could operate inside that environment.

“I could never have anticipated what it would feel like to collaborate with James Cameron,” says Stu Merser, owner of Vis-A-Vis. “His cinematic vision is unmatched, and the creative synergy we found together was something truly rare.”

From running tight against the stage to moving through hoards of fans, AGITO helped capture shots that simply wouldn’t have existed otherwise – bringing viewers closer to Billie in ways that felt completely natural to the show itself.

“We were able to get very close to the stage using these robot systems called AGITOs, which were gold.”

Not our words – James Cameron’s.

From moving through crowds to operating tight against the stage, AGITO helped bring Billie Eilish closer to fans all around the world for the new 3D concert film ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ – capturing shots traditional track systems simply couldn’t have achieved inside a live arena show.

There’s a moment during the making of Billie Eilish’s new concert film where confetti erupts across the arena and the crew suddenly realises stereoscopic 3D is working a little too well.

“In the rushes, it genuinely felt like the confetti was flying into your face,” recalls AGITO Pilot Alex Harrison. “They actually had to rethink some of the shots because of that.”

Directed by James Cameron, the production was less interested in novelty than presence: not simply how to make a concert look bigger in 3D, but how to make audiences feel physically inside the room itself.

Pulling that off meant building a camera workflow capable of moving through a live arena with unusual freedom and precision.

“Being able to run tracking cameras without physical rails was massive,” says Antares operator Barnaby Fairfax. “My camera position literally wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.”

Using AGITO Cine and MagTrax alongside FoMaSystems’ Antares, the team could move fluidly through crowds while stabilising constantly shifting stereoscopic camera rigs in one of the most technically ambitious live productions in recent memory.

“I genuinely don’t think another head could’ve done it,” Fairfax adds.

Big thanks to everyone involved, and a special thanks to Vis-a-Vis, who led production delivery on the project.

Throwback to last year piloting AGITO Cine with ANTARES and a 3D beam splitting dual camera rig. One of the craziest setups I've ever dealt with on a remote head and it handled it like a champ! Great combination of systems all came together to make something awesome. Really enjoyed working with such a great crew. Also incredible to work with the director that got me interested in film when I was a child!

Now out in Cinemas!

When one of the greatest directors on the planet @jamescameronofficial uses – and name-checks – your invention… yeah, that’s a bit of a pinch-us moment.

James Cameron. Billie Eilish. AGITO Cine. Not a bad trio.

Hit Me Hard and Soft lands in cinemas 8th May – in 3D – and it’s genuinely unlike anything we’ve seen in concert capture. It sets a new bar for live experiences that feel like you’re actually there. Trust us… we’ve seen it 😉

Awesome work from everyone involved. Now, over to you Billie & JC. 💪🔥

When the Moon waxes, the reef responds 🌕🪸

In Curaçao, we filmed coral spawning as it unfolded, captured larvae smaller than a grain of sand as they began their journey, and followed the work inside the conservation labs at CARMABI during spawning season.

Many coral species release eggs and sperm in response to the Moon’s phases and light, each following its own pattern. Filming meant staying flexible, tracking multiple species at once, and being ready whenever the Moon triggered the next wave of spawning.

This sequence came together through three dedicated teams - a macro team, a spawning behaviour team, and a BTS team - working side by side with fantastic local scientists, supported by colleagues back in Bristol, to bring something truly special to Moon: Nature’s Secret Force.

Some nights, the Moon doesn’t just set the mood… it hosts the wildest beach party in California 🐟 🌙 🎉

When the grunion run on those Moon driven high tides, it’s organised chaos - thousands of fish wriggling onto the sand under moonlight for one frantic mission: mate fast, lay eggs, and slip back into the waves before the beach becomes breakfast.

Filming this moonlit mayhem meant long nights under the full moon, sandy boots, and trying not to get caught in the splash zone… but the result is a sequence that reveals just how extraordinary (and outrageous) nature can be when the Moon calls the shots.

It’s one of the many sequences powered by an incredible team behind the camera and back home in Bristol.

Extremely honoured to have been awarded an EMMY for Outstanding Cinematography as part of the camera team who worked on SECRET WORLD OF SOUND with DAVID ATTENBOROUGH.

Produced by @humblebeefilms and broadcast on SkyNature & Netflix, I played a small role on the series but loved every minute of filming Crested Gibbons in Cambodia.

As always, it was the team who made everything possible, especially @helenjdrew @gemmabrandt @steveclarktv and the crew on location who helped us track the gibbons and lug our camera kit through the jungle every day for a month. Often at break neck speed!

I'm so glad that the teams' efforts across the whole series have been recognised and acknowledged by way of such a prestigious award.

Thanks everyone - especially Humble Bee Films for inviting me to be involved in the first place!! 🙏😊

In July of 2023 I was part of the team tasked with shooting the Mayfly Emergence for ‘Airborne’ on the Tisza River in Hungary. Having shot Mayfly in Britain, I was keen to witness and film the behaviour in Hungary on a much bigger scale.
We decided to tackle shooting the sequence by splitting into two teams. Cameraman Ben Cherry would be operating from a boat, reacting and following the swarm using gimbals and a Jib. I was tasked with Shooting long lens high speed.
There is a fine balance of many factors at play that make this behaviour occur, and can often yield different results. We were relying on daily intel from our experienced guide Bela, as to the best times and places to deploy, in order to get the best chance of filming the emergence. Once we had formulated our plan for the day based on Bela’s recommendations, I would load up all of my gear into a small boat with my guide Laci, and scan up and down the banks in the river, looking for any shallow areas or places where I could get my tripod setup without it sinking under the surface, and get myself safely positioned where I would be able operate the camera.
This choice of positions I would have to film from was severely limited due to high steep banks and undergrowth, dropping sharply down with minimal flat, solid ground at the bottom. The meandering nature of the river meant that certain sections of the river would not receive the beautiful backlight of the setting sun and would be cast in shadow from the high forested banks. Fortunately, after much scrutiny we often managed to find a spot to set up that was suitable and with a bit of tinkering, get my lens as close to the optimum level just above the waters surface.
Whilst massive storms threatened to washout other filming days, we continued with our lucky streak and managed to stay with the swarms on several different days, with large numbers almost every time. This wouldn’t have been possible without the skill and extensive knowledge of our Hungarian Field team. They consistently put us where we needed to be and at the perfect time. It was an incredible sight to behold and I feel very lucky to have not only witnessed it, but captured it on film.
