Another year around the sun,
With miles behind & dreams not yet done.
Far off lands & far seas crossed,
I’ve found more wonder than time I’ve lost.

My friends who’ve laughed through thick & thin,
Who turn old stories bright again,
And my amazing girlfriend by my side,
The finest part of my stride.

And to her girls, with light and cheer,
Who’ve brought so many smiles this year.
Their laughter fills the days we share,
Like a kind of magic in the air.

For journeys taken, stories spun,
For all I’ve learned and all I’ve done,
I raise a glass and say merci,
What a gift this life has been to me.

Have a drink and let us cheer,
To love, to laughter, to one more year.
Another trip around the sun -
And may the best be yet to come. 🥂

Looking back at every one of our dogs’ journey is a beautiful experience.
Xena and her brother (he has been adopted) went into foster care where they thrived. They then went to the Firehouse Program where as always, the handlers did an amazing job. Xena then transitioned to the Prison Program. This transition was much needed as Xena learned to be without her brother and blossomed into the dog that she was always meant to be.
Rescuing Xena and her brother required a lot of time transporting, training, coordinating but it was all so worth it.
Her adopters drove 3 hours + one way to the Set Free Program to meet her, receive their go home lesson, and take her home.
This would’ve not been possible without the MHR team, the Set Free team, the Firehouse Team, and the IDTA handlers and staff and those of you who supported this rescue effort.
Please consider sharing our mission and supporting our mission in any way possible so that we can continue rescuing dogs like Xena. We aren’t your typical rescue. We ensure all dogs are vetted, house broken, crate trained and have their foundational obedience prior to going home. Our tiny team invests a lot of time transporting, coordinating, and training. We also invest a lot of resources in all of our dogs so that they can have the best chance at staying in their forever homes.
To Xenas adopters, thank you for choosing Xena without hesitation. Happy tails, sweet girl 🩷

Took my dad’s old Canon Rebel S for a spin on the yearly Big Sur camping trip (that’s him walking out to surf in the first pic). Film just hits differently than an iPhone photo sometimes, and 35 mm Fuji film seems to capture the feeling of what it felt like to be there the best 👌🏼

Almost 9 years ago we had a vision to create an urban oasis at the corner of Santa Fe and Mateo in the Arts District (Los Angeles).

What began as a parking lot of an old warehouse formerly served by train, 500 Mateo was painstakingly transformed into the home for @baveldtla and @vervecoffee.

We unleashed the landscape wizardry of @stevesiegrist who made this vision a reality, and now this triangular lot is a haven for birds, flowers and bees. To hear the birds chirping and hopping around the ever-changing landscape is to experience true joy.
