There are two versions of braille: uncontracted (which spells out every word) and contracted, which is abbreviated.

Video description: Sydney wearing a blue sweater.

Transcript: Have you ever heard of a raised dot system called Braille that bind and low vision individuals use to communicate? Well, do you know how it came to be? It was founded in 1824 by Louis Braille who was inspired by a system of raised dots and then he later made it his own and added numbers and punctuation to make it easier for everybody to use. Although it was invented in 1824, the first time braille was used in the United states was not until 1854 by the Missouri school for the blind and since then it has been used by many blind or low vision individuals all over the world. Maybe you know somebody who is blind or low vision and they love using braille on the daily basis.

Who’s ready for a history lesson?

Opening: A young white woman with brown hair and a pink floral shirt seated in her power wheelchair, rolls up and waves to the camera, and captions display the words, “Okay! Who wants to learn some disability history?”

Next: A comic image on a yellow background. Four cowboys dressed in grey, green, purple, and blue. All are wearing cowboy hats. Their heads are tilted back, mouths open as a little speech bubble says “...No...Taxation…Without… Representation..!” Captions below the image display the words, “Years after the famous statement of “No Taxation Without Representation,” came another similar but equally important slogan.”

Third: The same young white woman with brown hair and a pink floral shirt seated in her power wheelchair, rolls up and waves to the camera, and captions display the words, “Hi, I’m Laneah and today I’ll be talking about the slogan,” The scene switches to a black-and-white photograph of a woman in a wheelchair holding a sign saying “Nothing About Us, Without Us!” Captions continue, “Nothing About Us, Without Us!”

A switch adapted toy is modified to be controlled with a simple, external switch. This modification allows children with physical or developmental disabilities to play with the toy by pressing a large, easy-to-use button using their hand, foot, head, or another body part. The goal is to make play accessible and enjoyable for every child.
