Άγιος Φίλων Καρπασίας 🤍

Some names are too important to let history forget them.

Almost 1,600 years ago, here in the land of Karpasia, lived a man named Φίλων a Cypriot, a shepherd of people, a teacher, a bishop and a servant of God.

He devoted his life to the people of Karpasia. He taught, preached, helped, prayed and cared for them at a time when the region was still deeply influenced by paganism. But perhaps what touches me most about him is not what he preached, but how deeply he cared.

It is written that he spent the nights praying for those who had gone astray, shedding tears for them. He did not pray only for the people who loved him or believed as he did. He prayed for the lost, asking God to have mercy on them and bring them back to the light.

That is the kind of love that deserves to be remembered.

He was a man of faith and knowledge, a writer and teacher, and was trusted so deeply by Saint Epiphanius that he was entrusted with the care of the Church in his absence.

And when his life on earth ended, he remained here in Karpasia, the place he had served and loved.

Today, near Rizokarpaso, the remains of the ancient church dedicated to him still stand by the sea. The stones, the foundations and the ancient baptistery are silent witnesses to a man whose life once touched this land.

Άγιε Φίλων, Επίσκοπε Καρπασίας.

May your name never be lost.

May the people of Cyprus remember that before borders divided this island, before centuries passed, before our memories became fragile, there was a man here who spent his life loving and praying for his people.

And perhaps that is why we remember him still.

Όσιε Φίλων, πρέσβευε υπέρ ημών. 🤍
