Everyone’s sharing year-end recaps, but I wanted to pause on something different.

When I’m genuinely excited about the work, personally and creatively, I notice how it shows up in the room.

I slow down. I listen more carefully. I create space for people to feel grounded instead of “on.”

That’s often when clients tell me the process feels calm and clear, and when the images begin to reflect something deeper than a brief.

The projects that stayed with me this year weren’t just about strong visuals. They were about trust, shared language, and long-term thinking. These are a few of those moments.

Looking ahead, I’m most excited about continuing to build work that evolves with the people behind it.

What happens when Jeans Queen Lauren Taylor’s in the workshop with 14 awesome students? Maker magic, of course. We were SO impressed with the skill, curiosity, and sheer endurance that our students brought to the sewing table last (long) weekend!

On Wednesday, our Garment Alterations crew learned professional tailoring techniques, drawn from Lauren’s years of experience in the fashion industry. From seam ripping strategies to styling and troubleshooting tricky alterations, everyone left with the confidence to give new life to their favorite pieces.

Then, over the weekend, our Sew Your Own Jeans crew spent two and a half intensive days cutting, stitching, and topstitching their way to their own custom-made @closetcorepatterns Ginger Jeans!

A massive thank you to Lauren for sharing her expertise and enthusiasm with the Fringe sewing community. We’ll see ya again in August 💕

Dream dress made possible by @stitchedslowly ❤️ I had the honor of wearing my great grandma Mary’s wedding dress from 1954. So many plans, alterations, time and love went into me wearing it. I’m forever grateful to Paige and will never get over wearing a 75 year old dress that belonged to my grandmother first🥲

Sewing Fundamentals | Meet the Machine

Sewing Machine Basics

In this 2-hour class, sewist Paige Plihal guides students through a complete introduction to the sewing machine. You will learn on our studio’s computerized machines, the Pfaff Ambition 610. Whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine before or need a refresher after time away, this introductory class is designed to give you a solid foundational understanding of how to use a sewing machine so that you can step into our project-based classes with confidence.

You’ll learn how to wind a bobbin; thread the machine; adjust stitch length/width; use decorative stitches; sew gentle curves; pivot and turn corners (on the machine and with the iron); and experiment with buttonholes and elastic.

You’ll leave with a stitch sampler notebook cover and inner journal so you can take notes through the class and leave with a tactile reminder of your new skills!

Join us October 4-5 for a weekend intensive, where you learn to sew your own @grainlinestudio Archer Button Up shirt with Paige Plihal of @stitchedslowly. The Archer is a chic, loose-fitting button up shirt with slightly dropped shoulders and long sleeves (we’ll be sewing View A). It’s the perfect project for building your confidence and refining your garment sewing skills.

Sewing Fundamentals | Pattern Reading 101

Learn to Measure & Pattern Read!

In this 1-hour demonstration class, sewist and pattern designer Paige Plihal guides students through a complete introduction to demystifying sewing patterns. Paige will demonstrate printing and assembling a PDF pattern as well as laying out and cutting a simple tank top. Students will also learn how to read a printed pattern envelope, and leave with a list of resources for beginner garment sewists. Techniques are demonstration only, the last section of class will be Q&A. Come with questions and a place to take notes!
Ages 10+ years. Children 8+yrs are welcome to attend with an adult.

Beginners welcome. No requirements. This class is a lecture-demonstration class, not a hands-on, project-based workshop.
