Aviation meets Top Fuel! Aviation drag racing like no other!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The STOL pilots pause their aircraft on the ramp to debrief and refuel after their first heat of the day. For this image I stood in one place and shot a series of images over a full 360 degrees. Using 57 images to first make a panoramic which I then used to create this final picture. 📷 Nikon Z6.3 : Tamron 35-150 : ISO-125 : f/9 : 1/2500 shutter 📷 #airraces #stoldrag #withmytamron

Reflecting back on last week in Roswell, it’s always an intense week. I met and conversed with so many interesting people (conversations coming soon to FAN). As I sit down to work on all the imagery we captured, one of the highlights was definitely my time spent with the STOL Drag folks. This is John McCardle crossing the turnaround line in his Bearhawk 5 during the first heat on Sunday. 📷 Nikon Z6.3 : Tamron 150-500 : ISO-125 : f/8 : 1/1250 shutter 🎥 Insta360 Go Ultra

For the final STOLdrag race of 2026 I was matched up with Tony Sanchez in his Just Aircraft Superstol. He typically runs faster than I do in this much heavier @legendcub Nomad, but this time I was very close to beating him. It was a just for fun race as we’d already finished all of our scoring runs. @stoldrag is a blast! Yee Haww!

Ladies and Gentlemen we have a race! Today, for the first time since 2022, all seven aircraft classes raced in the National Championship Air Races. With the Formula 1, Bi-Plane, STOL Drag, Sport, T-6, Jet, and Unlimited racers all taking to the sky over Roswell, NM. Plus additional guests today running laps on the jet course were the USAF Thunderbirds. 📷 Carolyn Hinton and Rich Spolar
