Tenants of Fulton and Elliot-Chelsea houses with public housing advocates boo’d the NYCHA board out of the room at an open meeting this week. They called them liars, criminals and killers for forcing through a disgusting privatization scheme that Mamdani’s administration is continuing from the Adam’s administration. This plan will demolish their homes and take away their Section 9 status. 5 senior tenants have already died from the stress of relocation. So to that we say NO DEMOLITION! NO PRIVATIZATION!

Disruption! Disruption! Disruption!
At the NYCHA Board hearing representatives once again tried to sell us that privatization and demolition was a good thing. None of us were buying it. They only allowed all the attending residents of public housing 30 minutes to speak. Then their cronies got up but we weren't finished. These are just a couple of the interventions at the board meeting.

Next we marched to City Hall Park where we later saw Cea Weaver. Do you think she expected to cross paths with angry NYCHA tenants? Of course not.

Both those running the city and the DSA Right want to stop these powerful voices from speaking up against the attacks happening to the black and brown working masses of the projects. The smear campaigns are used to shut all of us up but we can't let that happen. We have to keep bringing the heat, calling out Mamdani and all the people backing privatization and demolition.

This is just the beginning of building the coalition and army to defend public housing. Join us.

Jacqueline Lara is a resident leader in the fight to stop the demolition of Chelsea’s Public Housing. She ran for City Council in 2025 and has lived in Fulton Houses for over 24 years.
