A wedge tornado drops out of a rotating wall cloud over Effingham, Illinois, and the whole farm goes quiet. Maci held her ground and filmed it.

🌪️⚡️On July 11th, 2026, a rare and intense tornado outbreak would impact the Canadian high plains with numerous photogenic twisters. I was able to capture at least two separate tornadoes including an intense EF-3 near Tulliby Lake, Alberta (slide 3) but my favourite tornado of the day was the absolutely beautiful Bronson Lake, Saskatchewan EF-1 (slide 1)! The structure of several of the tornadic supercells from the day were just absolutely otherworldly! Thankfully, the tornadoes on that day would largely remain over rural areas, avoiding populous regions. The PERFECT chase!

⏮️🌪️Throwback to my very first intense (EF-2+) tornado almost half a decade ago near Bergen, Alberta! This intense tornado yielded winds of 190 km/h and destroyed a very well constructed outbuilding and inflicted very intense damage to forests and vegetation with maximum width of well over half a kilometre (600 m). This was THE tornado that kickstarted my career as a chaser! Unfortunately there was a significant injury associated with this tornado but thankfully it avoided populous areas and caused zero fatalities!

🌙🌪️ The May 18th, 2025 Plevna, Kansas mile wide monster was undoubtedly one of the most violent tornadoes I’ve chased in my lifetime. I chased this incredible tornado alongside my great friend @thelonestarchaser and we were both in complete shock over what we were seeing. I’ve included a couple “never before seen” shots of this absolute unit of a tornado as it tore across the Kansas countryside in the dead of night. The roar of this tornado was right up there with the loudest sounds I’ve ever heard. Thankfully, due to the rural nature of the region, very few structures were impacted and the tornado was given a rating of a EF-3. The three homes that were impacted were essentially obliterated by the roaring winds. For locals, who were all too familiar with mile wide monsters like the Greensburg EF-5 that would wipe out the entire town back in 2007, this was a nightmare scenario.

🌪️⚡️As the Canadian tornado season draws to a close, let’s take a look back at my tornado outlook map that I made back in the late winter and assess my accuracy by province and grade the overall picture by comparing my outlook to the map created by the incredibly talented folks over at @ntp_reports

Alberta: A
Saskatchewan: B+
Manitoba: A-
Ontario: B
Quebec: A-
British Columbia: C
New Brunswick: C+
Nova Scotia and PEI: D

Overall Grade: A-

I had relatively high success in identifying tornado hotspots across the prairies where the vast majority of significant tornadoes occurred. A historic season on the prairies was highlighted by several strong tornadoes including Tulliby Lake, Alberta, Oxbow, Saskatchewan, and Rossburn, Manitoba. That being said, despite a significant number of tornadic events in southern Ontario and Quebec, I overestimated the number of STRONG tornadoes in that region. The final nitpick I have with my original outlook is that I underestimated the surprise activity across PEI and Nova Scotia. All things considered, I think this was another pretty strong outlook, particularly across the Prairies.

🌪️⚡️To this day, the May 16th, 2025 Marion, Illinois high-end EF-4 remains atop the pinnacle of *officially rated tornadoes I’ve documented with wind speeds of 310 km/h (190 mph)…only 10 mph below the threshold for an EF-5. This tornado nearly ended an over decade long EF-5 drought on our planet before it would ultimately be broken by the Enderlin, North Dakota tornado although some controversy still exists surrounding Enderlin’s rating. The Marion tornado would inflict catastrophic damage in mostly rural areas of Southern Illinois before completely slabbing homes down to their bare foundations.
