Preparing for a day off from training! Awesome night out with T @story_cellar. If you want great steak and great service go for the Goodfellas night. Simply brilliant.

Brilliant lunch at @story_cellar today. The food was incredible, and the rotisserie chicken was absolutely perfect.

Thank you @tomsstory and @123mattoc for such a great lunch. I’ll definitely be back — the French onion soup with bone marrow has my name on it!

Cheers, gents, and please send my love to the whole team. 👏

Guess the dish… I bet you can’t 👀

Today I had the pleasure of being thoroughly spoilt by my dear friend Matthew at the fabulous Story Cellar, tucked away just moments from Covent Garden and part of the incredible Tom Sellers collection.

I like to think I’m a fairly adventurous eater, but every now and then the idea of a dish can make you hesitate before you’ve even tried it…

This was definitely one of those moments. 😂

Thankfully, Matthew insisted this was THE dish I couldn’t leave without trying. He promised me I’d love it — and he was absolutely right.

Snail Bolognese on toast 🐌🍞

And it was absolutely delicious. Rich, indulgent and completely unexpected. Who knew snails on toast could taste that good?! 🤌🏼

A little reminder to occasionally step outside your comfort zone… especially when someone who knows food tells you to trust them. 😉

Thank you @123mattoc for another fabulous foodie experience. ❤️

Why does it feel like Alsace Riesling gets overlooked when we talk about great Riesling?

Is it the style? Is it the accessibility? Or is it a version of Riesling that most don’t associate with the grape?

I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments!

For me, I think it’s the last one. That these wines are done in a style that can be more expansive and broad shouldered on the palate. Instead of featherweight and lithe wines, these can be wines of stature and cut from marble.

Kind of like this killer 2016 Trimbach Frederic Emile Riesling! As the Summer of Riesling marches on, this is the perfect demonstration for why we need to expand our minds as to what the Grape is and can be.

Coming from Grand Cru vineyards in Osterberg and Gaisberg, this is purity in a glass. The nose is deep and succulent right away as it permeates in the glass with liquid rock, meyer lemons, a touch of oily notes, red apples, quince, gunflint, spiced pears, jasmine, apple blossoms, and some saline. The Full bodied feel is deep and silky with mouthwatering, high acidity that is coming into balance. This is a real beauty. It’s beginning to hit its stride and has many years ahead of it.

This wine just delivers! And it does that on a consistent basis. If you’re a fan of Alsace Riesling like me, let’s show the love for it and share this post!
