The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, joined the powerful voices at StoryCorps’ Brightness in Black launch in Philadelphia on September 14.

This groundbreaking initiative celebrates the richness and complexity of Black life in America, aligning perfectly with our mission to create positive change for youth in underserved communities.

A special highlight of the launch event was the sharing of a personal story from Malcolm Jenkins and his mother, Mrs. Gwendolyn V. Jenkins, the foundation’s President and CEO. They reflected on their professional and personal journey through The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, offering a glimpse into the deep connection between their family’s values and the mission of the Foundation. Their story is a testament to the power of resilience, advocacy, and community, and it served as a perfect example of the kinds of narratives Brightness in Black seeks to amplify.

By sharing our stories, we’re not just changing narratives – we’re shaping futures. The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation stands proudly with StoryCorps in this journey to amplify Black voices and inspire the next generation.

Together, we’re writing a new chapter of empowerment and hope. We also want to wish you a Happy International Day of Peace. Your story has the power to change the world!

What a great weekend at @storycorps Brightness in Black launch. I’m really proud of the event that myself and the @kontan.creative team put together- it was so special to work with @ensembleartsphilly’s Kimmel Center, a staple venue in Philadelphia’s art world. 🥰 During the colorful day, we hosted performances, panel and partners who shared about their impactful community work. Most of our vendors were Black/brown owned small businesses, it was a fantastic way to showcase what our community is capable of.

A lil bit of joy❤️‍🩹

Thank you @whyy @storycorps and @phl17 for sharing our little family and our very big joy.

We have been intentionally surrounding our little one with not just diverse representation but especially reflections of who we are.

It’s been such a beautiful journey watching her not only embrace who she is but seeing the representation we used to fight for be so normal for her.

It’s been a joyful journey indeed. Happy to share that with Brightness in Black.

Make sure you’re keeping up with @storycorps What they are doing by collecting these Black Joy stories for the Library of Congress is nothing short of beautiful. And y’all always know I love @whyy

@storycorps has been on their #mobiletour since the beginning of this year and they made it to Mobile at the end of October.
Their mission is to “help us believe in each other by illuminating the humanity and possibility in us all — one story at a time.”
They go along from city to city recording loved ones conversations.
These recordings are collected in the U.S. Library of Congress and are kept in their online archive!
A few of us at First Light Community were able to come together and talk a bit with Story Corps and tell our stories with one another. It was magical to be able to come together and learn about each other on such a deeper level that we may have not had the chance to do! #mardigraspark #storycorpsmobiletour #firstlightcommunity #visitmobile
