Heading to Africa! Excited to join the Hack the Future Lab Kenya, a distinctive two-day think-and-action tank produced by the British Council and led by Karen Palmer. The Lab explores how technology and social systems might be designed from Kenyan, African, Ubuntu, Indigenous, and relational worldviews. Rather than stopping at critique, it asks a necessary practical question: what can we build instead? Through collective reflection, future artifacts, and testing, it approaches technology as inseparable from land, labor, data, culture, memory, and power—and future-making as a living heritage practice.
I’ll lead “Protopian Worldbuilding: The Future Watches Back,” an interactive session where participants turn emerging concerns into small, testable alternatives. Together, we will identify the human capacities threatened by new systems and prototype “world cells”—rooms, rituals, services, platforms, or protocols that restore agency, consent, dignity, refusal, and repair. The aim is not to imagine a perfect future but to rehearse better conditions in the present: tangible enough to question, improve, and carry forward.
I’m looking forward to working alongside Karen’s brilliant team: Wakanyi Macharia-Hoffman, Kai Njeri, Mario, Mophat Okinyi, Kambale Musavuli, Rex M. Lee, Dr. Mary Bitta, Yvonne Cho, Dr. Angella Ndaka, and Odanga Madung.

I had NO idea what was waiting inside these four rooms.

Ad | Step inside the Annwn Prize at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay, the first award of its kind in the world, and Wales is leading it.

‘Annwn’ means the Otherworld in Welsh, and that’s exactly what this is: four immersive experiences you don’t just watch, you step inside them. These are powerful, important stories that will move you in ways you don’t expect. Some rooms are pitch black. Some make you the centre of the story. All of them get your brain working, making you think about the past, the future, and where we’re going as a country. They make you stop. They make you feel.

The Prize, launched in 2025 by Wales Millennium Centre and produced with Crossover Labs, marks a major new moment in the global arts calendar. Supported by Peter and Janet Swinburn, the winning artist or studio will be awarded £20,000 along with a bespoke residency to support the development of new work.

Four rooms, each experience runs 30 to 60 minutes. Wales Millennium Centre, Bute Place, Cardiff Bay, CF10 5AL. On now until 26 June 2026. Tickets from just £6, or grab all four as a bundle.

Make a day of it in Cardiff. Wander Cardiff Bay, grab food along Mermaid Quay, see the Senedd, walk down to the Norwegian Church, then lose yourself in another world at the Centre.

Yes peeps … I’ve literally just found the energy, and I mean just found the energy, to tell you about this summer party. Once a year a number of us in the media, creative arena, print, TV, theatre etc, get together and just let go! We reminisce, we have a drink, we dance and we truly enjoy each other‘s company. This year was extra special as there was a PA by @beverleyknight who did a rendition of the @whitneyhouston hit “It’s Not Right But It’s OK” …. and she was more than OK! The sunshine was an added bonus and by 5pm I felt like I’d done a gym session. Thanks as always to @karasmith11 for her hard work and passion to make this event pop, thanks to @djmunro for his music selection which is always on point, and thanks to @nigeltindall of @sabinerooftop for accommodating us again. Here’s to next year. Ax

The Annwn Prize 2026 is open!

A huge congratulations and thanks to our four shortlisted artists, Karen, Kathryn, Andrew and the Novaya team.

The annual Sabine Rooftop party hosted by Kara Smith and DJ Munro was a roadblock of sophisticated peeps, good music, a rooftop balcony of sunshine, soul train line dances, our National Treasure Beverley Knight jumping onto the sofa to sing, and I fangirled unapologetically over THE Vanessa Williams *swoon!*
