I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out what it actually means to build community.

I used to think it was mostly about what you could give... what you could organize, create, contribute or change.

December's fire taught me that it goes both ways.

It's been incredibly difficult, I've needed a lot of help, rest, accomodations and I had to learn how to accept it and ask for what I actually need. To let people care for and about me all when I'm not used to it and would tough it out the best I could.

That all makes these two awards mean a lot and I’m genuinely honoured by both.

But when I look at them, I don’t see something I accomplished on my own.

I see people who showed up. People who made room. People who trusted me, stood beside me, let me contribute, and people who reminded me that I was allowed to need help too.

I would not be here without a lot of very important people in my life.

And I think that’s what community is really about - it needs to be built together.

I’ve been changed by the people in my life.

For the better.

So I’ll keep building, connecting people and making room.

Because I know now: You can build community. And you can let the community build you back.

Both depend on each other and are so worth it. ❤️

That’s a wrap on the season.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the finale — the Share the Road Gran Fondo. And thank you to Eleanor McMahon and her team, who’ve spent the better part of two decades making Ontario a safer place to ride.

The one-metre passing law that gives you room on every ride? That’s them. Canada’s first Vulnerable Road User legislation? Them. The Bicycle Friendly Communities program that’s pushed municipalities across this province to actually build for bikes? Also them.

Most of us benefit from that work every time we clip in, without ever knowing whose name is on it.

Five rides. One season. But we’re not going quiet — we’ve got a few things cooking over the off-season.

Stay tuned. See you in 2027.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the #ShareTheRoad Gran Fondo in memory of OPP Sgt Greg Stobbart. Greg was killed by a careless driver, while cycling 20 years ago.

Riders from all across Ontario joined together to support cycling safety and a new cycling skills education program launched by @STRCycling - Bikeability Ontario.

To date, over half a million dollars has been raised to fund cycling safety, education and advocacy programs across the province in Greg's honour. ^ks

Aujourd’hui marque le 20e anniversaire du Gran Fondo #ShareTheRoad, organisé en mémoire du sergent Greg Stobbart de la Police provinciale de l’Ontario (OPP). Greg a été tué par un conducteur imprudent alors qu’il faisait du vélo, il y a 20 ans.

Des cyclistes venus de tout l'Ontario se sont rassemblés pour promouvoir la sécurité à vélo et soutenir un nouveau programme de formation au vélo lancé par @STRCycling : Bikeability Ontario.

À ce jour, plus d'un demi-million de dollars ont été collectés pour financer des programmes de sécurité, de formation et de sensibilisation au vélo dans toute la province, en l'honneur de Greg. ^ks
