Excuse me! Does anyone have a spare back I can use? The one I have currently sucks 🙃. Since arching hurts, I had to do flat bench which and keep things relatively light. Oh well, I'm just happy to be lifting again since I'm currently falling apart 😭. #powerlifting #benchpress #girlswholift #fitness #tryingmybest

Now that it’s over, here’s a little backstory for the 2-year hiatus⌛️ My last competition was in the Spring Semester of 2024 in ATL at the 2024 COLLEGIATE NATIONALS USAPL MEET. So much happened leading up to that meet personally and mentally dealing with stuff within the sport and outside of it to the point that I decided to leave this sport for good. So I’d thought… I felt like a lot of people weren’t in my corner or best interests, and so it led to my last two CNATS with 4th place finishes. In 2023 I was supposed to retain my national championship in the 125 kg weight class, but due to biased opinions I got moved to the 110 kg weight class and was competitive enough to get 4th place. In 2024 I was not present but I always showed up when it mattered and by that time the love I had for it was no longer there. I know myself as an athlete and the 2023 and 2024 nationals were not the best versions of myself as an athlete. My love transferred over to THE Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and the world of cheer, and i couldn’t have been more blessed to meet the people I’ve met within those two different worlds. After graduation I went home to rebuild and recenter myself. Got a job, lifted weights just to be strong and healthy until one day my momma and I were talking and she personally felt like I wasn’t done with powerlifting. In my opinion, I most definitely was because I competed at the highest level in college and I had no regrets, but still she insisted that it wasn’t over… Some months later, Coach Blanco would check in and joke about when I was competing again until one day I decided to say, “Alright but I need a coach.” Prep started in May 2026, and I also moved from Mississippi to Missouri in that same month. Found Strength Works Gym and the rest is history. God has always directed my steps and he’s never led me astray, but everything that happened this year leading up to this meet was meant to happen. I’m not sure what’s next with this sport, but there’s a new found drive that pushes me to be better than what I was. A new journey & a new chapter all for the books🙏🏾

@avasugarrr (77.6kg, USA 🇺🇸) clean and jerking a PR 130kg/286lb at the 2026 USAW Nationals! She also did a PR 105kg snatch for a 235kg total, going 6/6 for the first time in her 14 national level meets she’s lifted in, spanning back to 2022.
