Some conversations are difficult to have, especially when they bring painful or unresolved experiences to the surface.

If a conversation about trauma or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) feels triggering, give yourself permission to pause, step away, and take care of yourself. You do not have to process everything at once.

Reaching out to someone you trust or speaking with a therapist can be an important step toward understanding, healing, and moving forward.

Your well-being comes first.

Small steps can lead to meaningful growth.

Personal growth does not have to happen all at once. Give yourself time to reflect, recognize patterns, build healthier habits, and celebrate the progress you make along the way.

Every step forward matters. Your journey does not have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Suicide prevention starts with connection, empathy, and honest conversations.

Children and teens need to know they can talk about what they are feeling without fear of judgment. As parents and caregivers, listening, creating a safe space, and helping young people learn healthy ways to cope can make a meaningful difference.

If you notice changes in your child’s behavior, mood, or sense of connection, take it seriously. Start the conversation. Listen. Be present. And when needed, reach out for professional support.

Suicide prevention is not just a month of awareness. It matters every day.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Honorable Judge Shera Grant and her daughter, Maddie, for inviting me to speak with the students of The Leadership Academy! It was truly an honor to be part of such a meaningful initiative focused on developing and empowering our next generation of leaders.

I commend you both for your vision and commitment to strengthening students’ academic skills, critical thinking, decision-making, and leadership abilities while encouraging them to make positive, purpose-driven life choices.

Thank you for the opportunity to share, inspire, and pour into these amazing young minds. The work you are doing through The Leadership Academy is important, impactful, and necessary. I wish you both continued success, your work is impressive! Thank you!

Little hearts need support too.

Children and teens can experience big emotions, even when they do not have the words to explain what they are feeling. Changes in behavior, frustration, withdrawal, or difficulty adjusting may be signs that they need extra understanding and support.

With the right guidance and a caring, age-appropriate approach, families can navigate emotional challenges together.

What anxiety says isn't always what's true.

Anxiety fills your mind with "what ifs" that can leave you feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and constantly on edge.

But anxiety is not your identity, and it doesn't define your future.

With the right support, you can learn to manage anxious thoughts, build healthy coping skills, and move forward with greater confidence.

At Strive Counseling Services, we're here to provide a safe, compassionate space where healing begins.

You don't have to face anxiety alone.

Mental health matters today and every day. 💗

This World Mental Health Day, let’s raise awareness, challenge stigma, and remind one another that no one has to face life’s challenges alone. A kind word, a listening ear, or a simple check-in can make a meaningful difference.

Be kind. Start conversations. Support one another. Choose hope.

Your mental health matters, and asking for support is a sign of strength.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE | BE CANCER AWARE

Cancer affects more than the body, and it can impact our mental health, relationships, identity, families, and overall well-being.

On Episode 9 of Striving for a Healthier You | Then & Now with Crystal, I’m joined by Dr. Coretta Collins, FNP-C, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who serves patients with cancer and blood conditions at UAB. With nearly 20 years of nursing experience in oncology, primary care, and women’s health, Dr. Collins brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to this important conversation.

Together, we talk about:

🎗️ Why cancer awareness matters in our communities
🎗️ The importance of screenings, family history, and early detection
🎗️Common mental health challenges following a cancer diagnosis
🎗️How family and friends can support someone with cancer
🎗️Grief, anticipatory grief, and finding your way forward
🎗️The power of writing, reflection, and wellness during the cancer journey
🎗️Hope for those living with cancer and those supporting someone they love

Dr. Collins is also the author of the CANspiration Journal, created for people fighting cancer, and Mine for a Time, which addresses pregnancy and early infant loss. She is the founder of the Busy Bee Writing Retreat and uses her voice through writing and speaking to make health and wellness conversations practical and engaging.

This episode is a reminder that being cancer aware means more than knowing the signs it means knowing your body, asking questions, getting screened, seeking support, and taking care of your mental health along the way.

Sometimes we spend so much time pouring into others that we forget to simply enjoy the moment, tell our story, and celebrate who we are.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to be seen, heard, and celebrated in such a meaningful way.

What do you imagine therapy would be like?
Therapy is simply a safe place to slow down, breathe, and talk with someone who listens without judgment.

It's where you can process life's challenges, learn healthy coping strategies, and take meaningful steps toward healing.

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out. You just need a place where you feel heard, supported, and understood.

At Strive Counseling Services, we're here to walk alongside you, one conversation at a time.
