Stroik is one of those artists that once you hear him for the first time, you can tell there’s something special swirling in the air. Is it nostalgia? Untapped genius? Welcome to the the works of a bedroom pop wizard... sounds like Daniel Johnston meets David Byrne meets Foster The People.

Stroik tragically passed away in 2022, however his legacy lives through his catalog. Stroik’s album, 65th & York, is out for you to discover.

Drawings I did of my friend @stroikmusic. He’s not here anymore but his music lives on.

Producers Andy Chase (@thebandivyofficial) and @brucedriscoll introduce a first look at the documentary short “Stroik: Unknown Pop Wizard” — a film about the late songwriter’s unique music, imagination, and the world he created from his bedroom.

Watch the film and read the feature at the link in our bio.

Words instead of songs this time.

My essay about Drew Stroik is live on @talkhouse today. Thanks to everyone who’s kept his music alive.

A brute force approach helped Drew Stroik land a record deal. The unknown musician sent demo after demo to his favorite musicians, until one — Andy Chase – responded positively. Chase pulled in frequent collaborator (and current Ivy bandmate) Bruce Driscoll to produce an album full of Stroik’s off-kilter bedroom pop. 65th and York finally saw the light of day last month – 15 years after its initial recording and three years after the musician’s life was tragically cut short. Driscoll and Chase join us to discuss the album’s creation, the intervening decade and a half, and why you can finally hear the songs for yourself.

Celebrating the memory of our friend @stroikmusic last night at the @culvercityff. It was amazing to see him on the big screen and hear his music loud. His parents flew in all the way from North Carolina. It was a beautiful moment. We did it @dougwerby @camera2official 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Thanks to everyone who came.

So proud of this loving mama, Connie, spreading her love for her son, Drew, and his music after his untimely passing. Here she is talking about him on @abc11_wtvd and the documentary we made about him, Unknown Pop Wizard. If you are available on Monday afternoon, come check it out this Monday at the @culvercityff (AAA block,4pm). It’s my directorial debut and I would love to see you there!
