Sparring time #mma

Competition is more than winning or losing.

It’s where we test ourselves, face our weaknesses, learn how to stay composed under pressure, and discover what we’re truly capable of.

Every time I step onto the competition mat, I remember why I started, and why I keep going.

A huge part of that mindset came from my coach and friend, @olivergeddes . He taught me that competition isn’t just about medals, it’s about challenging yourself, representing your team, and becoming a better version of yourself every time you compete.

His influence is still with me every time I step on the mat.

I compete with purpose.
I compete for growth.
I compete for my team. @strongermma
And I compete carrying the lessons and legacy of my coach. 🖤

If you train in combat sports like #mma, you’ve probably experienced something called transient hypofrontality.
Sometimes when you’re sparring or hitting the bag with real intensity, your brain reduces activity in the prefrontal cortex. This is the part of your brain that handles hesitation, self-criticism, and second-guessing every move you make.

When your body needs split-second reactions, your brain pulls resources away from that region so that movement can happen faster than conscious thought.

You’re not necessarily not thinking. It’s that the part of your brain that overthinks is offline.

This is why fighters look so calm in chaos. They’re not suppressing fear. It’s that their brain has physically quieted the region that produces hesitation.

This is why you can walk into the gym stressed out of your mind and walk out of it feeling like nothing in your day was that serious. #mmatraining
