Tobias Müller in Monopol, 25.9.26

“The social order dances when the contrast between ‘Volkskultur’ and high culture is completely deconstructed.”
Tobias Müller in Monopol, 25.9.26

The festival may have come to an end, but the works presented will stay with us. Julian Warner’s “Paradise Lost: Dieser Kampf ist kein Zeichen” opened the festival on Karmeliterplatz, bringing together Austrian wrestling stars, a queer feminist choir, pyrotechnics, a marching band, Barry Manilow, and cheerleaders from the Graz Giants for a spectacular culture war between old enemies and new allies.

With only a few days to go before we touch down at The Red Church we’ve got the final 3 selections, this time from @jaycarderdj who once again proves she is one of the best out there for varied and carefully selected curation. We cannot wait to hear what she brings on the night.

Jay Carder’s three tracks selected present tunes from the likes of future-gazing producers like @_polygonia_ (remixed by @luigi.tozzi.music), breakbeat monsters by @joku.transmissions (out on JC’s own Erbrum label) as well as a showstopping dark, heavy dubbed out number by @struktur__ .

We’ll also be celebrating the release of Jay Carder’s incredible new 4 track EP Radiate, out on Friday on @fauxpoly. It’s absolutely killer.

Last tickets available on Headfirst.

Don’t sleep on this!

Another week, another monsoon of new electronic music. Don’t want to wade through it all? Or just resigned to the fact that doing so is humanly impossible? Let First Floor help.

These seven releases all dropped during the past week, and they’re all great. We even wrote why we think so, and paired those texts with some handy links so you can listen to the music yourself.

All you’ve got to do is check the latest First Floor digest, or visit First floor online and head straight to the Recommended Releases section. Enjoy!

As part of Mapping Waidmarkt, an ongoing investigation into listening, place and collective memory, Gottfried Böhm’s brutalist church St. Gertrud hosted one and a half weeks ago an evening of live sound at 8 PM onwards.

A particular highlight was Kali Malone’s rare electronic live set, alongside two live performances by BRUTALISM residents Dornen and Lomi, accompanied by artist Gayeong and a set by Struktur. Throughout the evening, visitors could also explore Rosalie Becher’s sculptures in the crypt.

BRUTALISM and Mapping Waidmarkt connect architectural spaces with experimental sound practice. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Thanks to everyone who joined us in such great numbers, and to everyone who supported and contributed to making this special evening possible.

@struktur__ - « Levitation » is out now on @maloca.records

Berlin-based Struktur (aka Frieder Blume) lands on Maloca with Levitation, his debut release for the label. Drawing on a broad spectrum of electronic styles, the album offers up a nebulous yet consistent body of hypnotic, club-forward explorations, grounded in patience, gradual evolution and a deep understanding of dancefloor movement. Spanning everything from unfolding constellations of half-step sine plinks to DnB-infused pulsations and melty dub-techno, Levitation oscillates effortlessly between light and heavy, with the effervescent hypnosis of Disparity and Carrier Loss giving way to the woozy, weighty pull of Adrift and Suspension.

Levitation LP is out now on all platerforms

Noods tonight 🤗🥳

My first @noodsradio recording in the new house :)) Quite a hectic time moving house and trying to get this recording - and trying to get the camera angle 😅

The video stopped recording for 2nd half of the show - which had some really nice moments (if I can say) - notably a mix of Mosca “Press Up” and Ricardo’s remix of Shackleton 😭

Oh well the audio’s there and that’s what it’s really about :)) Started very slow and got very fast by the end - hope you’ll be into it!

Airing 22:00-00:00 tonight 🤗

Struktur’s second single Grounding is out now on @maloca.records

On Grounding, @struktur__ explores the relationship between rotating synth arpeggiations, rapidfire, mutative hi hats and bassweight-laden gravitational pull. Cinematic and urgent in its tonality, the track offers up a patient, hypnotic study of half step movement which exists in a state of dancefloor-focused perpetuity.

Grounding is out now on all platforms, full album out 7/10
