Join artist Stuart Crewes for a 2hr cyanotype workshop! He’ll be supporting you in using a range of materials from the Scrapstore, natural objects from Belmont Park and some acetate stencils to create wild miasmic and mysterious shadow/sun prints. We’re intending for this to happen both inside and out, so come prepared to forage in both the park and the scrap warehouse! You’re also welcome to bring your own shadow-making or opaque objects to put into the mix. There’s a £2 booking charge, with refreshments and materials all included. Adults (16+) only. What an amazing weekend and wrap-up of our residency at Exeter Custom House! We'll be posting more about the wider residency later, but are just about coming down from the high of The Considerate Society! It was an amazing coming-together of the creative culturally curious community that we've been building over the past three years and such a warm and generous bunch you all are too! There's a really great review by the June Boom team on our bio Linktree - check it out! Our website is being updated and you'll be able to see photos and outcomes from all of the various salon activities. Pictured here are: 1: some of the Banners by Adam Garratt; 2: Steve Sowden performing at the Cut-Up Cabaret; 3: sharing views on the Jamaican veranda outside; 4: the team, Stuart, Volkhardt and Paula, in considered conversation... If you came along and joined in with one of our salons, please do give us your feedback here: https://forms.gle/MePXNnXdFoYN5wzP8 or you can always drop us an email or even comment on this post! Thanks to everyone involved - especially our Cultural Knowledge Exchange who really framed and defined this glorious weekend. #SocialPractice #ArtAndHeritage

A calm and collected investigation of the materials this month. Life outside was a bit hot, chaotic and frenetic, so it was great to have a fan, jugs of squash and to move slowly! Chat was varied, a bit of catching up and making plans, experiences being remembered through the images on offer and some great projections of intentions. We had a couple of proper coffee table photo books for this one, and it feels like there’s another level that can be reached with a bit of reverence for the source materials. #CollageClub #ScissorsAndGlue #AnalogueCollage @pariscollagecollective @kolajmagazine #VintageCollage

Brand new Active Looking Project Workshop in April at The Ladder in Redruth Postcards from the Future - collage workshop Friday 24th April 13:30 - 15:30 The Ladder, Redruth A collage workshop exploring possible and positive futures for Redruth. Join collage artist Stuart Crewes to consider the town where we live, work and play - what is amazing and inspiring and what could change for a better tomorrow? BOOK NOW: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1985279188495 We’ll discuss our thoughts and dreams, we’ll share about remarkable past and present moments and people and we’ll hear about things that have happened in other similar places around the world. Together we'll talk about how these ideas might manifest, what steps will need to be taken along the way - who is in this vision of the future, and what are they doing? Using high-end lifestyle magazines, local print media and historical books and photographs, we will scope out our plans for change and bring these things together in collage, each making a postcard-sized image (or series) that describes a possible Redruth of tomorrow. Once the making part has concluded, we'll have a mini exhibition, and look at each other's work. We'll reflect on each piece and also talk about who we could send our postcards to, from this future? Maybe it's a local politician or government department, an organisation or school? Maybe it's to ourselves? You are invited to bring along any images, books or other printed material that can be cut up (photocopies if they are of something precious!) to include in the workshop. No experience needed, we'll be working at a pace that includes everyone with help and support at the level you need. BOOK NOW: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1985279188495 About Stuart Crewes Stuart Crewes is a collage artist - from traditional scissors and glue to sound work (including DJing) and 3D assemblage. @flammcornwall Flamm : Bodmin 2026. Day 2. First stop @intoBodmin for a great coffee! Liverpool Biennial commission Dear Othermother by Amber Akaunu was screened in the downstairs front room. It’s a powerful documentary about the informal communities around single parents who help to raise their children. Upstairs for more moving image - Here by autistic artist Alexander Prynne was an installation with lights, diffuse projected colours and text. It felt like a Brass Eye episode of Tomorrow’s World, in a good way! Next up, the DIY-science venue @Discovering_42 where I saw the split-screen Touched by the trees in a forest of eyes, by Linda Lamignan - a really excellent process-meets-documentary film. CAMP had a group show in the back of the building, two that caught my eye were: Charlotte Squire’s Mask With Elongated Earrings and John Elliot’s Scooter (2nd iteration). Outside for an encounter with the Re:Rooted moving sculpture by Kitty Hillier with Small Acts - totally brilliant micro-carnival of creatives wrestling a giant pink root that was rumoured to be stuffed with dreams! In The Pop Up, there was a glorious eruption of local joy and down the road Bodmin Gallery had a great curation of festival and local artists. Finally back to Discovering42 to meet Carlos Zapata for an automata making workshop… Great to be immersed in another SW arts festival, getting inspiration and making connections. (Stuart)
