birthday shenanigans…
so one of my esteemed colleagues @infectedsenses booked the next MiM for my birthday, meaning I’ll be breaking a 53 year record of not working on that most hallowed day! So come along and see the wondrous projections and hear the grinding noises of my labours!

Also - and more importantly, do come along and check out the excellent performers! @slow_slow_loris (experimental/ avant-garde industrial drone duo Berlin/USA) supported by Sieben (“one-man-rawchestra”)

Absolute steal at £5 - in the workshop space @exeterphoenix
*as requested - there WILL be chairs!*

Looking for some creative fun time this week?
I’ll be in-situ at the welcoming and hearty @cuckootaproom on Thursday evening for #CasualCollage with sacks of bonkers books, magazines and ephemera to cut and paste into images of wonder and delight!
£5 gets you access to all the nonsense, use of glue & scissors, and of course a decent mountboard for putting it all together on and displaying it at home.
Always unexpected and entertaining…
You *don’t* have to drink booze to join in (but I will be) and they have a fridge full of great non-alcoholic options.

such a lovely evening @12barmusicandsocial with sounds by @withoutendexeter (sorry peeps, no photos of you in flight).
I caught up with a bit of a massive collage project and had a couple of beers.
And what about those beers! @quantockbrewery Liminal State neipa. Absolutely gorgeous, hopped with Krush Cryo, Motueka, Nelson Sauvin & Sabro it’s funky on the nose and smooth as an otter!
Rocking 6.4% it’s got a bit of heft and is extremely drinkable.
Right, now I’ve got to wrangle this nonsense home!

Join artist Stuart Crewes for a 2hr cyanotype workshop!
He’ll be supporting you in using a range of materials from the Scrapstore, natural objects from Belmont Park and some acetate stencils to create wild miasmic and mysterious shadow/sun prints.
We’re intending for this to happen both inside and out, so come prepared to forage in both the park and the scrap warehouse!

You’re also welcome to bring your own shadow-making or opaque objects to put into the mix.

There’s a £2 booking charge, with refreshments and materials all included. Adults (16+) only. Details in our Linktree/bio.

shout out to this guy!
I’m tidying my studio after nearly 20 years and coming across all sorts of gems (most destined for carboot/ dump).

For quite a few years I was developing a body of artworks, each based on a) single house clearance detritus and b) balancing.
This chappie has been a kind of mascot for the shelves even since the bits came out of that week’s forage.
Think I might keep him around for a while because as @mariekondo would approve - he does bring me joy!

#singles!
7 inches of fun and they last about 3 minutes.
I had two lucky hauls at consecutive car boot sales recently. I find it always makes the afternoon afterwards fun, buying records, having a little dance!
I’ve also played my first two gigs with only 7” vinyl recently, which was fun - there will be more coming up!
anyhoo, here’s some of the booty!
1. Fern Kinney - Baby let me kiss you [it’s the B side of Together we are beautiful]
2. Roy Orbison - Oh’ pretty woman. smashing but I was seduced by it being an original from a jukebox…sounds like trash!
3.Elvis - (Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame. killer tune!
4. Bee Gees - Stayin’ Alive. In excellent condition, a joy!
5. Robert Palmer - I didn’t mean to turn you on. class
6. Duran Duran - notorious. Crisp, chic!
7. Bee Gees - Night Fever. The photo says it all!
8. Heatwave - Gangsters of the groove. ex DJ copy and well looked after!
9. Michael Jackson - don’t stop ’till you get enough. phew!
10. Donna Summer - Hot Stuff. ❤️‍🔥
11. Barry White - can’t get enough of your love, babe. 🧊
12. The Chi-Lites - Have you seen her? A gift for @lindydillon as she likes them so.
13.The Byrds - So you want to be a rock ‘n’ roll star. stone cold
14. Tony Joe White - Groupy Girl. Southern morality tale or something…

What an amazing weekend and wrap-up of our residency at Exeter Custom House!

We'll be posting more about the wider residency later, but are just about coming down from the high of The Considerate Society!
It was an amazing coming-together of the creative culturally curious community that we've been building over the past three years and such a warm and generous bunch you all are too!

There's a really great review by the June Boom team on our bio Linktree - check it out!

Our website is being updated and you'll be able to see photos and outcomes from all of the various salon activities. Pictured here are: 1: some of the Banners by Adam Garratt; 2: Steve Sowden performing at the Cut-Up Cabaret; 3: sharing views on the Jamaican veranda outside; 4: the team, Stuart, Volkhardt and Paula, in considered conversation...

If you came along and joined in with one of our salons, please do give us your feedback here: https://forms.gle/MePXNnXdFoYN5wzP8 or you can always drop us an email or even comment on this post!

Thanks to everyone involved - especially our Cultural Knowledge Exchange who really framed and defined this glorious weekend.

yes to this kind of nonsense!
it’s @cuckootaproom ‘s 5th birthday and they are ramming the place with DJs, bands and beers!

Tonight I’ll be spinning New Wave 7”s between 8-9pm, but come along from 4 to hear @anitaknox53 on the decks.
Also featuring @attis.disco @this.is.ed.kos @ladymelza and more! absolutely spanking!

I got my wine chilled in a big glass!
They also have a decent stash of From Above by @trackbrewingco - possibly my favourite GF beer!

See you hanging around on the pavement because it’s heavin’ & steamin’ inside!

Much like the footie, there’s some last-minute substitution going on!

But if you care not for the footie and fancy dancing the night away…come and catch @anitaknox53 , Macca J and myself, spinning #Funk, #Soul & #Disco on vinyl, tonight at @exeter_mermaid !

Excellent cocktails, fine tunes and a through-draft, what’s not to love on a summer’s evening in the city?
