It really does take a village and I have the most abundant one.

For the world, the creative pursuit exists at the polar ends of a finished project. But for the creators the journey between what’s new and what’s next is differently paced than they would have liked. And to navigate this uncertain journey, I have a rock solid supportive system of my family, friends, and peers.

I will confess that I often operate on whimsy far away from reality but knowing that these guys have my anchor lets me go on those hypothetical adventures and make them a reality. I am what I am because of these folks, what a blessing!

That I got to celebrate one of my special days along with all of you fills up my heart. Thank you, your presence means the world to me 💝

The mandir in Amaltash holds many stories.

As per vastu, we could not have any habitable space above mandir. But architecture often asks you to negotiate between belief and possibility. With a bedroom inevitably sitting above, we figured a design solution by separating the slabs, creating a pause, an implied tension that holds both these spaces without conflict.

The constraints did not end there. While the mandir found its place in the north-east as per vastu, the idols too were to align in the same direction. This led to a 45-degree placement of the idols. We let this angle to guide everything - the platform of stepped levels along with the ceiling’s shuttering pattern.

The most fun was to design the idols and the bells with @monil_kyada cast led in solid panchdhatu, specially for the clients - shaped through a detailed study of all the attributes we wanted in these 8” idols.

Islamic geometry inspired mini mandala
Acrylic on paper

The more I paint, the more I realise I’m drawn to shades of blue and red.. maybe my affinity for red comes from my papa♥️

This one is an attempt to explore symmetry and balance, while playing around with the colours.

Would love to know what you feel when you see this.✧

Drawing room and Living room

As you move forward from the vestibule, the house opens into the drawing room and the double-height living space. The shift in heights amplifies the sense of scale; something you feel before you fully register.

This home is deeply infused with art and craft from across the country. At its core is a conscious effort to support craftsmen while building a collaborative circle of designers and artisans within our community.

Across the project, we have worked closely with product, lighting, textile designers, and artists, allowing the house to become a shared canvas. These collaborations have helped us create an ever growing design community that thrives and supports each other.

A consistent language of tones, hues, and textures is woven in the home through these collaborations.

@priyankanaruladesign from @thewickerstory brings in a sculptural ceiling installation, while @harshitajhamtanidesigns designed a double height totem along with her collaborative custom light piece with @length.breadth.height .Anchoring the double-height space is a 12-foot artwork by @shahanshahmittal , and a folding screen by @raasleelatextile created using the traditional Sujani quilt technique and a sculptural art piece by @_houseofsoko_ @_soko225_ that adds another layer of narrative.

The furniture pieces like the living room sofa, swing, and centre tables are all designed in-house, responding directly to the space and its evolving story.

Excited to share more about the processes behind these collaborations in the coming posts.

Amaltash : Vestibule

The partition between the vestibule and the drawing room is the first thing you observe as you step in through the wood and copper main door.

Almost like a miniature of the house itself, it carries the language of the exterior inward; the light terracotta pink and textured greys gently transitioning into the interiors.

This partition comes from my observations of @girish_doshi_architect ‘s studio, and stands as an ode to him. His work has unknowingly guided me over time; where playfulness with design and proportions never stops, yet always anchored in modernist principles.

A sliding door allows the space to open or close, creating privacy when needed, while the fluted glass holds back just enough to let curiosity linger.
