Levante – Luceplan
Kot lebdeči organizem v prostoru. ✨

WengJen (@twjpto )

“What does it mean to be Malaysian design ?” Photographer WengJen (TWJPTO) captures Malaysia’s evolving space identity through a refined, editorial perspective.

Perched on the 42nd floor of The Manor, a 50-storey tower in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle, this 3,700-square-foot residence has floor-to-ceiling windows that capture sweeping views and abundant light. However, the client wanted the opposite, so architect Kim Hin Neoh of Studio Eleven (@studio.e11even) merged two condominium units along Persiaran Stonor into a single dwelling that deliberately rejects brightness in favour of dimly lit, richly textured interiors punctuated with theatrical gestures. Read on at the link in our bio.

There’s something to be said about staying small. Rather than be overwhelmed by scale and splendour, you’re cocooned into an intimate retreat. That’s what six nights at @noordinmews in Penang felt like. A former 18th-century horse stable and shophouse have been saddled up into a sure-footed bolthole equipped with modern comforts.

Old-world beams and gabled roofs are layered with @byhogenofficial pieces that drew inspiration from the architecture, whether that’s the quarter-timber joints or the weight-bearing corbels. A timelessness strides through the space: locally made rattan furniture is combined with Anglepoise ceramic lamps and AXOR bathroom fittings.

But it was the quiet, attentive service that won us over. Cables were tied, clothes were folded and snacks were shared at nightfall. The staff knew us by name and our breakfast selection was promptly served once seated. Set against the backdrop of a disconnected, distracted world, such tender care and intention feels precious, more than ever.

Revisiting @gohbs’s apartment after a year, picking up subtleties I have missed prior, particularly his mid-century furniture collection, newly acquired arts and how @studio.e11even’s pared-back design brings them together.

Much of my approach has changed this year and this is quite reflective of where I will gravitate towards going forward — provenance, understanding complexities, locality, meaning.

A shared vision. Very recent work for an upscale two-in-one apartment in Jalan Stonor designed by @studio.e11even for a veteran product designer. The interior work reflects muteness and mystery, giving stage to the owner’s and designer’s mutual penchant for objects, furniture and bespoke paraphernalia.

I love how Noordin Mews collaborates with Penang’s talented artisans, bringing their finest flavours and beautiful designs into the hotel. It’s an authentic approach that enriches the guest experience. Visiting the local tastemakers behind it made the experience even more special. 🫶🏻

When Kim Hin Neoh first walked through this 7,000-square-foot house in Batu Uban, Penang, nearly two decades ago, it was for business meetings, not design consultations. The owner, an entrepreneur who worked primarily from home, would invite the Studio Eleven (@studio.e11even) partner over to discuss her other properties in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. But as the years passed and meetings accumulated, Neoh began to see possibilities in the space itself.

The challenge was immediate and complex: how to accommodate an owner whose tastes spanned traditional Chinese calligraphy, Victorian figurines, primitive carvings, and her daughters’ substantial Lego collection without creating what Neoh diplomatically calls “a funhouse.” Go to the link in our bio to disc0ver how the solution lay in materials and spatial hierachy.

In the concrete jungle of modern living, a thoughtfully designed outdoor sanctuary delivers what John Muir observed: “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than one seeks.”

For Neoh Kim Hin, partner at Studio Eleven (@studio.e11even), elegant biophilic spaces bridge human needs with nature’s restorative power. “Our approach is rooted in simplicity and Zen-like principles,” explains Neoh, whose designs favour clean lines and natural materials that foster tranquillity. His work adapts meticulously to context, whether private or public, intimate or expansive.

Drawing inspiration from London’s Barbican Estate, Neoh demonstrates how strategically integrating plant life, natural light and earthy palettes transforms urban environments. His spaces feature curved furnishings that echo indoor aesthetics while withstanding the elements. “The appeal lies in offering a reprieve from modern life’s pace,” Neoh reflects. Through thoughtful curation, his biophilic sanctuaries create equilibrium—promoting mental restoration and sustained well-being.

Here are his five essential pieces for an elegant biophilic outdoor space.
