I’m a bit late but I keep looking back at these photos from NYFW and wanted to share some things that really made me think/feel. As secondhand maximalist, I love anything that involves incredible craftsmanship, unexpected materials, and a little bit of insanity.
From bicycle tires turned into dresses and discarded denim transformed into couture at @livingmemory.io upcycled art exhibition, to @selkie exaggerated Victorian silhouettes, physical books hanging from belts and actual WALKMANS (if you don’t know what those are, you’re too young to be here😩) , to all the dark, dramatic, embellished goodness at Scathed. I was in HEAVEN.
And my biggest takeaway? TEXTURE IS LIFE, LAYERING IS KEY, and SUSTAINABILITY IS ART. It can be extravagant, weird, romantic, theatrical, and completely over the top. And I am HERE FOR IT. Also, my bleached brows ATE!! And I will never again look at a bicycle tire the same

Paneeldiskussioonil lahkame rõivaste
teekonda. Kuidas valmib riideese ja mis saab sellest siis, kui keegi seda enam ei vaja? Kas plekk, auk või katkine lukk tähendab, et rõivas
on muutunud jäätmeks? Kes otsustab, kas ese läheb uuesti kandmisse, parandusse,
ümberdisaini, materjalina ringlusse või hoopis jäätmete hulka? Nendel teemadel arutlevad inimesed, kes puutuvad kokku tekstiili, õmblemise, stilistika ja rõivaste taaskasutamisega
oma igapäevatöös.

Last weekend, Living Memory presented our inaugural Upcycled Art Exhibition in NYC, bringing together 8 artists from around the world across fine art, fashion, and furniture, and a community that truly showed up and showed OUT.

Opening Night was filled with meaningful conversations, incredible sustainable art, and so much energy.
