Whimsy in practical spaces, but make it work✨

Cute knobs and gingham get the likes, but here’s what makes a laundry room actually function.

💨 Ventilation, ventilation, ventilation. Washer dryers pump out moisture, and without proper extraction we’re inviting damp and mould. Long time followers, you know about our extractor valve obsession 👀

📏 A pull out drawer to catch your basket under the dryer for easy access.

🚰 A big sink and tap to soak out those snack stains from your work shirts.

🔧 Access. Plan for the day the machine needs pulling out or servicing, and build the joinery around it.

🐈 Who else uses the room. In this house, that’s the real royalty.

Then we made it pretty with glossy fronts, sweet little knobs and a gingham wallpaper. Practical and whimsical 🧚🏻 You don’t have to choose.

Den wants to sleep with you. Woah, woah, woah, not like that… well, maybe? 🤓

We obsess over every single one of our projects, so much so that we obsess over your sleep too. The perfect night looks different for everyone, but for this project, it looks like a full width bespoke headboard, floating shelves flanking the chimney breast, and double lined curtains that wrap the whole room. A bedroom we would check into and never check back out of 😮‍💨

A touch of blue delft 💙

The story of this blue begins in China. The vivid cobalt that defines delft tiles was symbolic to Chinese porcelain, carried across oceans through Dutch colonial trade routes long ago. Now, we see them making their way back into our homes.

For this project, it was more than an aesthetic choice. A symbol of history, heritage while reclaiming parts of the story, anchored proudly in this home. Sometimes the most considered design decisions are the ones that don’t announce themselves. They just hold something quietly.

If I never had to set eyes on a cable again, it would be a dream come true 😌

Hiding cables is something we think about on every single project, be it TV wires, hairdryer plugs, charging points. It takes careful planning and real foresight to get there, and joinery is sometimes our answer.

Shoot me, but I love a TV of the chimney breast… There’s something about gathering around one that never gets old with the evenings, the people, the quiet memories that get made without you even noticing. Not despite the clutter it brings, but because of everything that happens around it. So we make space for both, the lived in and the considered.

We hide the clutter so the personality can breathe. There’s no one size fits all, and this space is proof of that. Understated where it needs to be, and entirely itself where it counts.

Welcome, welcome home 🏠 Come have a look at Den’s new little nest ☺️

We often wonder what it’s like to look into houses when coming home, but this one? This one pulls you right in.

Simple touches with strong intentions, this hallway was one of earlier design elements that made the biggest impact. When we designed this space, our clients were quietly waiting for the next chapter of their lives to begin. We didn’t know exactly what that looked like, but took notes to the things that would matter. How the entrance would feel at the end of a long day, the little pram corner that needed to work just a little harder.

Now, quiet evenings after an afternoon walk, answering the door to packages from near and far, this space feels like it really came full circle. Some rooms you design, others you somehow know will hold something just a little bigger.

Everyone has that one thing in their project. For this project, it was the tiled island.

When we talk about non-negotiables in our design process, we always pin the ideas closest to our clients’ hearts and ride them through to the end. There were many combinations, many configurations, many “almost but not quite” moments for this island. But we got there and it landed exactly where it needed to.

Now, this island will host friends, hold bowls of cereal and late night wines, and quietly watch as life unfolds around it. Every project has its heartbeat, this one just happens to take center stage ♥️

A spot to ponder.

Den stepped in to bring momentum and a healthy dose of energy on this project. When we showed up, it was clear the dreams and visions were big, and we were so excited to help bring them to reality.

During a renovation, ideas can sometimes live in the clouds ☁️ for a very long time. Big visions, endless screenshots, and pins on boards, but nothing tangible. We are endlessly obsessed with taking ideas in your head to turn them into actionable steps. Pushing the project forward, wrangling moving parts and bringing something that feels disjointed into real spaces.

These photos only exist because those ideas finally left the clouds, and landed somewhere you can sit on 🥰 This little window seat was such a joy to watch unfold, and I’m sure you guys will agree, it’s a gem 💎

More to come 👀

The week that almost broke me.
Progress, setbacks, stress fuelled inertia. Thankfully ended on a Den high because Emily is an absolute dream.
