POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Sir Alex Ferguson is a Number 1 Sunday Times Bestseller! We’re thrilled to have played our part in helping him get there. Without traditional book events - where authors sell copies with tickets - we had to think creatively about how to reach readers. We’re so grateful to the BBC for a beautiful interview which went everywhere, the National Football Museum for their wonderful tie-in exhibition and to Manchester United for getting behind their old boss. We’ve loved working on the campaign with the brilliant publicity and marketing team at Pan Macmillan (@poppynorth @clairechristine__ ) and Fergus @bereadnow It’s great to see our hard work rewarded with a number one.

This week we launched Sir Alex Ferguson’s memoir, Games of My Life.

Working with Sir Alex - alongside the incredible team at Pan MacMillan - has been a real honour as well as a lot of fun. He is, truly, an extraordinary man.

It was a whirlwind of a publication day - a true “Power Thursday” (if you know, you know):

* 🎙️Coordinating a massive BBC interview syndicated across TV, radio, and digital channels.
* 📰Waking up to stellar reviews spanning the national press.
* ⏱️Managing an early morning opening at Waterstones Deansgate, where dedicated fans queued from 0500 for special signed copies.
* 🏆Overseeing the media rollout for a display of Sir Alex’s private archives at the National Football Museum.

A massive thank you to the fantastic teams at @waterstonesmcr and @nationalfootballmuseum for making the day such a seamless success.

Some stories stay with you.

This one started more than 20 years ago with friendships made in publishing and I could never have planned how the threads of our lives would would come together.

I’m incredibly proud to have designed the cover of An Ocean & A Day, but the story behind it means far more to me than the finished design ever could.

It’s a story about friendship. Creativity. Love. Loss. The people who shape our lives. And the strange, beautiful moments when life seems to join the dots for us.

I’ve written the full story, including why the swallow matters, the memories of Matt woven into the cover, and the moment in Sydney when I discovered the design was going to become Hannah’s UK cover.

Follow the golden thread. The full story is at the link in our bio. 🤍

Today, An Ocean & A Day is officially published.

More than 20 years ago we worked with Hannah as we started our careers in publishing. We had no idea where life would take us or that one day it would bring us back together around a book that would mean so much.

This project has given us a lot. The joy of working together and the chance to use everything we’ve learned along the way to help Hannah share this extraordinary piece of work with the world.

The whole journey has been full of golden threads. Friendships, publishing, creativity, love and loss somehow weaving us back together.

And today, as we celebrate Hannah’s astonishing writing, we’re also thinking of Matt.

Matt loved publishing. He loved books. He loved Hannah. And he believed deeply in her writing, supporting and championing her every step of the way.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful things about An Ocean & A Day is the way it reminds us that the people we love transform us.

Through their lives and through their deaths. Through the love they gave us, the things they taught us, the memories we carry and the ways they continue to shape who we become.

Hannah has taken something unimaginable and created something filled with hope and light. For anyone who has found themselves grieving, staring into the chasm and wondering how life could possibly carry on, we hope her words find you.

So today we celebrate our brilliant friend, this beautiful book and living BIG lives in honour of those who are no longer here to live theirs.

We couldn’t be prouder of you, Hannah. 🤍

“Today has opened doors for all of us...”

This was a comment from a lady in the audience at Donna Ashworth and Hannah Richell’s event at the Edinburgh Book Festival - two authors who share a rare ability to write beautifully about grief and talk about it beautifully too.

When you then add interviewer Sarah Gwonyoma - who has also experienced terrible loss - something extraordinary happens.

The conversation was so powerful and uplifting. Members of the audience were brave enough to share their own stories. Yes there were tears. But there was laughter and hope too - and real connection.

Thank you to @edbookfest for programming an event about grief. It isn’t the most accessible subject. And there is definitely a reluctance in the media to discuss it. Which is madness! Grief will affect us all and what the Edinburgh event showed was that giving people the opportunity to be part of a conversation about it - and a space to share experiences - really helps.

I felt lucky to be in the company of three such incredible women - @donnaashworthwords @hannahrichell @whatsarahreadnext

The Royal Society of Literature (RSL) are looking for applications for significant new grants available to support literary festivals, author talks and book events. The RSL believes that live events like these are an essential part of the literary landscape all over the UK. The grants come at a crucial time for many literary organisations when funding is hard to find and costs are rising. The grants are available to support existing projects and to get new ideas off the ground. Each grant will be between £5k and £30k and the first tranche will be awarded in October. This is important and immediate help! You apply via the @royalsocietyofliterature website but the application window ends on July 8th and so the clock is ticking. Please do share if you can.

Oh no biggie. I am totally cool about this. Not at all freaking out to be chatting @edbookfest with the luminous and utterly joyful poet @donnaashworthwords and incredible book champion and all round wonder-human @whatsarahreadnext about love, grief, writing and most of all, LIFE beyond loss. This will be my first UK event for An Ocean and a Day and I think it is going to be very special. Do come. ❤️

Events don't get much more special than this. You could feel the buzz in the air as over 400 excited book lovers waited for the incomparable Maggie O'Farrell to take to the stage at Stanwell School last night.

Maggie's stunning new novel 'Land' is published this week and our lucky audience members were able to get their hands on a copy and hear all about the book from Maggie herself ahead of publication.

This is an event we'll remember for a long time.

We have indie exclusive copies of 'Land', featuring a special author signature stamp available to buy in store and online. This book is gorgeous inside and out and is guaranteed to take pride of place on your bookshelf.
