The baskets I made under the superb tutelage of the iconic @studio__amos finally arrived (plus one drool worthy fitched gathering basket made by them). I’m momentarily transported back to their Sussex studio, sipping Empress Grey and sucking in as much knowledge and lore as I can hold. And good news, old Staffordshire dogs get on great with Cali boys.

A weekend dedicated to the art of making.

This weekend at Daylesford Farm, Work of the Hand brought together a community of artisans, craftspeople and visitors for a two day event. From traditional techniques passed down through generations, to contemporary interpretations of age-old skills, each maker shared a unique story of creativity, patience and dedication to their craft.

Really enjoyed hugely creative gathering of people.

We’re fabulous in the second session debating how craft meshes with contemporary architecture and design.
And the importance of clients commissioning interesting and challenging architecture to challenge the craft inside and as part of the fabric of the building too.

Q- what craft will still be around in another 200 years and stand the test of time?

… I might know of such a project … but that is going to be revealed in good time.

New in! The Bow Basket, handmade in the UK by Studio Amos (@studio__amos) 🧺 Named for its distinctive sweet chestnut bow handle, this beautifully proportioned basket is handwoven in Brittany Green willow.

The sculptural handle, coppiced in East Sussex, draws the form together with a graceful, tactile finish. It is a beautiful expression of traditional British craftsmanship and natural materials.

One week to go! ⏳ Join us at The Future is Human Made: Hands, Work, Power symposium to explore how craft, making and design can help shape a more sustainable and equitable future.

The evening opens with QEST Scholar Carolene Yawa Ada, who will share insights into traditional West African puppetry, cultural exchange and storytelling, followed by a panel of expert makers including QEST Scholars Eddy Bennett and Annemarie O’Sullivan alongside Cassie Quinn and Sophie Sellu. Together they'll explore craftsmanship, materials and sustainability, chaired by journalist Debika Ray.

Our second session features keynote speakers Jay Osgerby OBE RDI and Alison Brooks OBE in conversation with Dr Neal Shasore Hon FRIBA, discussing how makers and craft skills can remain central to the way we shape the future.
