Join EmAGN NSW at Studio 44 for an evening exploring
the realities of establishing, growing and running an
emerging design studio.

Hear from representatives of Second Edition, Mone Studio, Studio Georgouras, Braaid and GSB as they share insights into starting their own practices, building teams and client bases, developing their professional identities, navigating practice ownership, and finding opportunities for growth and collaboration.

Studio Georgouras:
Studio Georgouras is a Sydney-founded landscape
architecture and urban design practice based on Gadigal Country in Redfern, with a focus on designing within existing contexts, green infrastructure and living systems. Founding director Alex Georgouras is a registered landscape architect and urban designer with over 15 years’ experience across practice and academia, and a member of the NSW State Design Review Panel, contributing to the evaluation of state significant projects. The studio develops
spaces that bring people together, advising on innovation, quality, efficiency and sustainability. It is known for Sky Parks, an award-winning rooftop retrofit initiative with several pilot sites across Sydney.

BRAAID:
BRAAID was established by architect Lachlan McLean as a platform to explore architecture beyond buildings alone. Working across architecture, interiors, installations, and object-making, the studio is evolving through an interest in materiality, spatial experience, and the stories embedded within places. With a preference for adaptation over replacement,
BRAAID approaches each project with curiosity, seeking creative ways to reuse, transform and reveal value in the existing. The result is architecture that is honest, specific and carefully crafted, balancing contemporary needs with a deep respect for context and heritage. Collaborative by nature and process-led in approach, BRAAID works closely with clients, consultants and builders to deliver refined, meaningful spaces that connect people to place through atmosphere and careful making.

Thank you beautiful hosts Will, Sarah and natural brick team @naturalbrick_ . Such a fun and friendly vibe this morning, I loved creating and learning more about your recycled aggregate products and upcoming hemp bricks - reducing embodied carbon in concrete 🔥

Such a cool full circle moment too, to meet Naomi from @studio_enti who supplies ceramic discard from their studio to natural brick which we were able to use in the terrazzo!

Seriously can't wait to see the finished tiles.

Settling in nicely!

We are very excited to share the news that EM BE CE has been unanimously selected as the winner of the Design Excellence Competition for a 27-storey mixed use residential tower in Chatswood. Our design introduces Cambridge Walk as a significant new, sun-filled, and activated public open space, over 900m2 of green roof planting, and a majority of high amenity, dual frontage apartments.

The Jury praised the winning team’s high level of urban and architectural ambition, the resolution of the scheme, and the exceptionally clear graphic and verbal presentation of the proposal… The jury noted the careful and sensitive modulation of the building envelope to maximise northern light into neighbouring buildings, residents’ apartments, communal and public open space, and the folding of podium wall heights to align with neighbouring buildings, integrated the project in a nuanced manner.

It’s a great way to end the year and we thank our collaborators for this great win.

SMALL PROJECTS // 2022 NSW Award of Excellence Winner

Sky Parks by Common Grounds Landscape Architecture
The jury highly commends the role of landscape architects as facilitators for engagement, research, and leadership in sustainability measures in our existing built environment with ongoing testing and monitoring. Its wider application has the potential to make significant social, environmental, and cultural impacts.
Although small in scale, this is a transformative project of underutilised urban space that applies innovative practice. It highlights the value of green infrastructure in delivering ecological and heat reduction benefits of living roofs but more importantly, advances research and thinking on carbon sequestration potential. The knowledge and learning are applicable at a larger scale and establish a new level of professional leadership that is commended.

Congratulations to the winning project in this category and thanks to @coordinated_landscapes for your support in this category.
