Rose - the flower of love. Cultivated for over 1,000 years, used as a mythological symbol throughout countless cultures.

Using petals, already fallen in a bundle dye was such a fun variation for my usual preference for even colors. It will be fun to continue to play around with textures.

Building a relationship with a plant, and then using it for medicine, and furthermore for dyes, is such a different experience and something I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to continue to explore versus purchasing materials from a supplier. Connection with land for healing.

🌱PACKAGING- look for companies supporting Sustainable Forestry Initiative, a nonprofit focusing on sustainability through forest focus collaboration. Companies that use biodegradable packaging. Focus on reusable packaging. And do NOT ship water (did you know the cleaners and laundry products you buy are 80% water).

🌱DISTRIBUTION- Shop U.S. manufactures committed to reducing their carbon footprint. Faster shipping creates a need for more trucks, undoing the ecological benefits of shopping online. Amazon’s deliveries last year alone admitted about 22 million metric tons of carbon, “that’s just under five coal power plants” experts say.
Interesting considering Amazon does not manufacture anything, food for thought. Shop small!

🌱FASHION- responsible for over 8% of total greenhouse gas emissions.
Shift the industry & consumers away from FAST FASHION- towards sustainable practices in sourcing, production, distribution, marketing, and consumption. Buy USED, have CLOTHING EXCHANGES, REPAIR what you have.

🌱FOOD- it’s estimated that 13% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions result from the production and TRANSPORT of food. Buy local, start a garden, eat more plants.

The akili collection includes our new line made out of brass, which is known as the problem-solving metal. Akili means mind in Swahili, and these sweet little earring studs are made out of recycled brass and olive wood with stainless steel posts.
