♻️ What happens when aluminium offcuts get a second life? At Dutch Design Week, Fourteen designers, one stock of industrial leftovers and plenty of ideas.

01 ALU EDITION is the first group exhibition by ECHO – From Residue to Form, a new design platform by Dutch studio Eenvoud Ontwerp. Developed with aluminium manufacturer Nedal Aluminium, it explores how overlooked materials can inspire new ways of making.

💡 No shared aesthetic, but a common curiosity. From sculptural pedestals inspired by architectural colonnades to lamps that play with surface and light, the exhibition celebrates different approaches to the same material.

🪑 Eenvoud Ontwerp turns aluminium offcuts from street-lighting poles into stools, a bench and the CONDUIT chair and table, letting existing curves and dimensions shape the design.

🏛️ Studio Jeroen van Veluw draws on architectural columns for stools and pedestals made from mechanically joined aluminium tubes, without welding.

🔊 Nemo Mulder, co-founder of Pattern Soundsystem, presents VISCOUS SILENCE, a speaker for intimate listening that brings material, sound and interaction together.

🪵 Studio Beek combines aluminium profiles with laminated oak in Bench N° 2.1, pairing industrial leftovers with rounded edges and exposed construction.

💛 Atelier Arjen Witteveen turns cylindrical offcuts into star-shaped CO lamps, while Ritsert Mans explores process, material and form through hanging torches and sculptures.

✨ WE ARE MAK STUDIO, founded by Aleksandra Sliwinska and Loran van Gerwen, presents Melt Lamp 001 and Bobber Lamp, exploring sculptural form, surface and light.

“When does something become waste and when does it become material again?” asks Eenvoud Ontwerp founder Maaike Rabbinge.

🌱 ECHO’s answer lies in collaboration, shared knowledge and fresh perspectives. Because materials need not be finished with their first life.

Design is often a balance between the weight of tradition and the precision of engineering. Studio Beeks works with long-seasoned oak to create pieces that prioritize material honesty, allowing the structural logic of the wood to remain fully articulated rather than concealed.

The Techno Collection N. 1.3 Lounge Chair is a study in restrained geometry. Its construction is reduced to essential elements, exploring the tension between load-bearing necessity and visual lightness. By applying time-honored craftsmanship to historic materials, the chair ensures that function and form remain inseparable.

Every joint and proportion is a deliberate choice. It is a piece designed for interiors that value structural clarity and enduring performance.

Material and logic lead the way.

Looking back on a very special Belonging Breakfast during GLUE 2026.

“Where there is bread, there is often a table. Where there is a table, there is connection.”

Together with TANK, we gathered around the table for good food, inspiring conversations and fresh perspectives on what it means to belong.

A big thank you to our speakers John Maatman, Esther Jongsma and Pernille Kok-Jensen for sharing their perspectives and sparking the conversation.

🥐 Special shoutout to Superkop and Frecious for helping us bring everyone together around the table.

And to all the talented designers behind SOLIDIFIED: Bas Pattyn, JO Studio, Objects by Marie, Sanne Kaal, Studio Beeks, Studio Vocum, VANTOT and ZOWA thank you for bringing the exhibition to life.

And most of all: thank you to everyone who joined us. 🤍

Because sometimes, belonging simply starts with sharing a table.

🟩 Reallife snippets van @glue.amsterdam. Geen muziek, alleen puur geluid! We startte bij Vitra. Toen naar het Stedelijk (Kho Liang Ie, later meer). Daarna VOS Design in Amsterdam! We wonnen de ‘Independent Practice - For sustaining a clear point of view when time and means remain stubbornly finite.’! Thanks @beyondspace.eu
