@studiocurrentuk introduces DRIFTING｜A new work by award-winning playwright Chia Wei Kuo✍️

🎭UK-based ESEA arts organsition #StudioCurrent introduces DRIFTING, created in collaboration with Taipei Literarure Award Playwright winner Chia Wei Kuo and Taiwanese director Sasha Tzu Yin Hsu.🏅

🌿Blending Asian physical aesthetics, poetic theatre, original music and dark humour, the work takes audiences back to 19th-century Formosa. Scottish doctor Dr. Patrick Manson arrives with the belief that modern medicine can transform the island, but an error sends him on a journey led by mosquitoes, somewhere between reality and illusion.🦟

🌊As culture, medicine, power and responsibility collide, it is asking when we believe we are changing the world, who is truly being changed?

Upcoming Movement Workshop for you 🌊
（The time has been slightly changed due to the venue availability.）

Redirect Violence: Flow Through Fight Scenes
What if violence could be redirected rather than resisted?
This movement workshop invites actors and movement practitioners to explore fight scenes through the gentle and responsive practice of Tai Chi.
We will explore the relationship between intention, qi and movement - how intention initiates action, how qi carries it through the body, and how movement can flow from one person to another.
These principles will then be brought into fight choreography, exploring how physical interaction can feel connected, responsive and alive.
Led by Jin Chen, an actor, movement director and fight director specialising in Chinese internal martial arts. Jin works across theatre and screen, and currently teaches at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and UAL Wimbledon.

潮間帶・人物專訪 .ᐟ.ᐟ | @sean____wang___

Went for a sharing and networking session for East and Southeast Asian creatives and it was a good space for reflecting on being transplanted from Singapore in the last half a year. A lot of old themes about representation and assimilation, but also a growing sense of what it means to continue doing creative work in the UK.

Really grateful to have witness the works in progress and to meet others grappling with similar themes in their work.
