@residenciapersona y @rayon.376 presenta a @mkpetros

Michal Petros’s practice brings together documentary photography, oral history, and cultural research to explore identity, memory, and belonging in communities shaped by migration and cultural change. Through portraits, interviews, and archival research, Petros examines the relationship between personal experiences and broader social structures. In Más Allá del Mundial, a project developed in Guadalajara ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Petros explores the tensions between celebration and urban transformation, bringing visibility to everyday stories that often remain overlooked.

This was less than hour of being in Kyoto - I was walking to dinner and shooting 📸 when this elderly Japanese man approached me to practice his English.

During my time in Japan, I was really surprised to find people didn’t stare at me and I didn’t face any “special” treatment. It was actually quite easy to meet new people and I don’t recall anyone else asking about my ethnicity/background. People were usually just eager to hear how I was enjoying my trip and to practice their English, often ending conversations by asking how well I understood them.

This conversation was the only one I experienced about my ethnicity and although I was truly shook (re: high pitched responses), I engaged by recognizing the context of his age and that I was visiting an area of the world with little Black representation. I also found it funny that I caught him making a full 180 on his bike - you never know when or how you’ll meet people on your travels (and yes the conclusion of the conversation was really that abrupt) 😅

The incredible and talented @flongala leading the @blackwomenphotographers Photowalk. It was so great to hear about to history throughout Harlem. So many incredible stories touched me. From the church services to the joy on the streets it was such an honor to capture! Thank you again for leading this group and it was good to be in Harlem again 🫶🏾

Hello from @mkpetros.jpg and @voneciacarswell 👋🏾

On Saturday, Oct. 16, we hosted the third BWP NYC photo walk during which we toured a Black-owned stretch of the Bedstuy neighborhood in Brooklyn, making our way down Throop and Tompkins Aves, stopping at the community Garden of Hope, Herbert Von King Park, and @buildingblackbedstuy.

It was the biggest and best yet with 30+ participants from a wide range of experiences and specialities--from portrait, street, and sport photography.

Stay tuned for some of our favorite captures from the day!

Shoutout to @_bre_johnson for setting up this amazing group shot!

Hello, from Michal (@mkpetros.jpg) and Vonecia (@voneciacarswell)!

We had the honor of hosting the second Black Women Photographers meetup in NYC in the form of a photo walk! We ventured from Washington Square Park to The High Line, and it was exciting to finally connect with some of the members we've been building connections and growing with online over this past year.

We're looking forward to sharing some of the beauty captured this day. Stay tuned!

Where should we meet up next? 👀🌍
