Tried my hand at the Japanese technique of Yakisugi, also known in the West as Shou Sugi Ban, on a test piece. Big thanks to @saylecycle for letting me use his workshop!

The foundation is everything! Carefully milling this block of wood to get it perfectly flat and square for my handmade bookends.

Crafting a new bookmark! Right now, I'm filing down the corners, dividing the rough shape, and then I'll be sanding the facets onto it.

These are the finishing steps for the bookmarks. Round the edges, cut the cord and loop it through the hole. Next would be the finishing but maybe I'll leave those natural just for testing.

Inspired by the everyday benches found throughout Japan, I've designed and built this versatile piece. Just like those ubiquitous seats, this bench is crafted from light yet sturdy spruce wood, with a reclaimed pallet wood seat adding a touch of unique character. Its compact size makes it easy to place anywhere, comfortably seating two. Whether you need a spot to rest, a perch for your plants, or a simple surface, its uses are truly adaptable to daily life. If you're curious to learn more, feel free to send me a DM!

10 years of marriage.❤️When we first met we were both full of so much childlike wonder, excitement and hunger to seek out the beauty in the world around us. We committed to a life full of adventure from the very start. From living in a VW van to moving to NYC with only packing whatever would fit in our two cars. Choosing to trust each other while surrendering our hearts with open arms without really knowing what that looked like. We jumped into the vast unknown of what marriage was. We’ve learned that to build a strong foundation requires a lot of hard work. To choose each other not just once, but daily, over and over again. We’ve been through so much together. We’ve been through valleys, experienced amazing highs and painful lows. I’m so incredibly thankful for those, from the very beginning took the time to pour into our marriage. Who have cheered us on and loved us so well. You know who you are.❤️ It’s been quite the adventure. With confidence I can say, that we have both grown as strong individuals independently and together as one. We give all the glory to God.🙏🏼Cheers to many more years with my favorite person and best friend.❤️☺️
